custom contact names dont appear in convo by Osiris on 09-20-2004 at 04:19 PM

ive got the latest versions of both msn messenger and plus! (updated plus! today) and i have given my contacts custom name in plus! >> preferences >> contact list >> custom contact names and have given my contacts names like NAME - (!N) and have checked both display custom contact names and use custom names while chatting, but when im talking to someone it appears as
somerandomhotmailaddress@hotmail.com says:
something

does anyone know if im doing anything wrong or if i can sort this out? thanks.. seems same problem as this thread describes http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=25...d=245998#pid245998 also i dont know what Mnjul means by the third check state, gray checked :S - thanks drakir

Check that you have checked the box in Plus! > Preferences > Contact List > Custom Contact Names > Use custom contact names while chatting. To make it "gray-checked" you have to enable the Display custom contact names box, enable the other one, and then disable the first one.
Hope this helps :P

the first state of the check box is blank.
if u click once on the checkbox, it will be ticked right?
well if u click again, it will be grayed (and ticked) :)

this was for version 2 though...

What I said in that post applied to Plus! 2 instead of Plus! 3. The previous tri-state checkbox in Plus! 2 have been changed into two checkboxes in Plus! 3. Since you've checked the two checkboxes in Preferences window, I can't think of any ways other than reinstalling your Plus! and Messenger..8-)

i reinstalled plus! and messenger, and it still doesnt work. could it be a plugin corrupting (sorry if this is the wrong word to use but cant think of a better one) something?

i unloaded all my plugins and it made no difference..

Oh, well.. Here's a tut with images :)

1. Go to your main window, and click on Plus! menu

2. Choose Preferences from the Plus! menu

3. Click the Contact List button on your left

4. Choose Custom Contacts Names from the fields you get when clicking on Contacts List

5. Make sure the two check marks are checked, if the one down isn't checked, check the first one, and then the second one.

Can you tell us more things? tell us the options you use in:

Do you ever use your contacts email in place of nick...

RE: custom contact names dont appear in convo by Osiris on 09-20-2004 at 08:13 PM

it automatically puts it to use email instead of display name when you select custom names
