Help with T'Internet by Dempsey on 10-02-2004 at 12:45 PM

About a week ago my PC's Internet stopped working and I think it's since I tried to install SP2, so i uninstalled that and did a system restore and it still didnt work.

My router works fine as my Laptop which goes through the router too, works fine.

The weird thing is, Shareaza and Ad-Aware update work, so i'm sure it''s a DNS problem.

I've tried deleting the network connection and re-adding it but nothing changed.

Anyone got any ideas?

(btw I'm running Linux atm so i can access the net and post this)

Maybe while trying to install SP2, the setup modified your network's configuration?
By the way are you in a bridge or not?
If yes, then right click to the bridge and select "Propeties"
Then select "TCP/IP connection" (or something like that) and click "Configuration" is "Automaticly detect these settings" oprion box selected?
If you are not on a bridge then do the same but instad of right clicking the bridge, right click "Local Area Connection"

Here is the Advanced settings

I use DHCP btw.

Has anyone else got a Router on XP that could just look up their settings?  So I can compare?

Well i dont think this is right...
Do the same thing on your laptop.
Copy the values from the laptop to your computer :)
Note: On "IP Address" the last 2 digits must not be same!
For example : If your laptop is using 192.168.1.3 then you should put 192.168.1.4 ;)

Good luck...

I don't have an IP set, because im using DHCP.  My laptop uses it and the PC used to work fine with so thats not the problem.
