Front Page 2003 (Y) you use it in your computer but it makes for great results.

I'd suggest Dreamweaver MX 2004 (Y) It's also a client software :)

However, whatever you use, things will get a lot easier if you are familiar with HTML tags, javascripts and CSS :)

Blah! I find I use Notepad more than anything to edit my webpages. Its fast to load, and has all the features I need :)

Actually Dreamweaver is the way to go if you are starting out. Its easy to use, and has a plethora of features. Be sure to look at the code often, as its important to be able to know what everything does. Dreamweaver isn't flawless, so there may be times when you need a quick tweak of the code. :)

Studio MX 2004 is the best software EVER made... not just Dreamweaver, Fireworks is AWESOME for webpages as well... when I am feeling really lazy I throw something together in about 5 mintues with Fireworks and they always look great!!

Studio MX 2004 ALL THE WAY!

In order of most useful for web n00bs.

  1. Dreamweaver MX 2004 in combination with other Macromedia MX products.
  2. Frontpage
  3. Any online builders (Geocities, etc.)
  4. Notepad

Im not just 'starting out', but I still use Dreamweaver. I actually never use the WYSIWYG part, I find it much harder than handcoding it. :P

I find that post offensive. If you use notepad, then you should seriously rethink your skills.
At least use a text editor with bleeding syntax highlighting.
I am the one responsible for the development of the RPG Integration Hack for vBulletin, and I use DW to do all my coding. It doesnt add any ease to the job, apart from syntax highlighting, and the extension I built in to have the entire php.net manual in there.

Unless you hit "Create a website", Dreamweaver is just Notepad with syntax highlighting. You can make your coding job just as easy or as hard even if you use DW, so I kindfully ask you all to LAY THE FECK OFF saying that using DW automatically means your a n00b.

If you use Notepad, its your own bloody problem, but dont think your 1337 just cos you are still stuck in the stone age.

Notepad is awesome, no one needs to "rethink" their skills... but after I found HomeSite and TopStyle, I will NEVER go back to notepad - and NeoRevan is right, doesn't make the coding any easies but it highlights it nicely.

Notepad.  :)  (That's what I use).

RE: what is the best webpage builder? by Concord Dawn on 10-12-2004 at 01:47 AM

My list was in order of usefulness! Dreamweaver in combination with other MX products (like Fireworks and HomeSite) owns all ass if you don't know f*** all about webpage code, and since it's got syntax highlighting in the coder section if you do, it's a really good all around tool. Web builders suck IMO because they don't offer the same features, and the parsing on some of them suck, making the pages only readable in IE.
