You should install your webcam drivers properly (ie: download the latest). You shuld also make sure it works in windows (in XP it will appear in the My Computer folder)

Not all webcams have this ability from their drivers. When you send your webcam to someone does it appear frozen or paused in you conversation window?

All mid new do have it.

However it should have a program with which to record or take pictures from the webcam. You have to make sure it works normally outside Messenger.
