Converting MOV by DJeX on 10-24-2004 at 12:41 AM

Ok I have this .mov file thats 135 mb and I want to put it on my web page but its way to big. I want to convert it to diffrent file type and lower the size.

Any one know where I could get a program to do this?

Well you could use crappy Windows movie maker to make it samller in .wmv then zip it apart from that I don't know.

Edit : You can find movie converters on the net but most IMO are crap.

Windows movie maker don't open .mov files and I did search Google but like you said most of them are crap and the good ones you have to pay for. Thats why I thought I'd post it here.

Well, there are programs on google. Try getting a trial of the good one, and if you can, I'll buy the program for you ;).

No, it won't...Virtual Dub Mod won't open .mov files in a million years...Because of the weird structure of .mov files and encryption and shit you'll find very few ways to transcode them into a different format...

maybe EO video...  or real helix  you can make it a .RMVB file with real helix   that are small files too so...

To convert Apple Quicktime .MOV files to AVI files (which almost all encoder/decoders/video editing tools can read):

Use the free "Bink and Smacker" RAD Video tools
http://www.radgametools.com/
it can do just that...

A tut on this can be found here: http://www.videohelp.com/mov2avi.htm

---

Also the little tool called mov2avi can do it for free (but doesn't provide much configuration)
http://www.divx-digest.com/software/mov2avi.html
and a GUI for it is found here:
http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=274

---

Remember that your file will still be very huge!! Changing the fileformat often doesn't change a thing in filesize (well not much anyways). You need to recode it at a lower bitrate and/or decreasing the screensize and/or decreasing the FPS and/or etc. etc...

---

How to find all this? Just use google: "mov2avi"

or just use the export function in quicktime...

RE: Converting MOV by saralk on 10-25-2004 at 04:13 PM

if the file is too large to host on your server, why not use bittorrent?

That doesn't actually make the file change to a different format...it just changes the file extension, not the codec it uses...and has many compatibility problems if you keep doing that...
