RE: Messenger Discovery by RaceProUK on 11-06-2004 at 11:13 AM

Most of the options are only useful once you've signed in.

RE: Messenger Discovery by Si_Singh on 11-06-2004 at 11:17 AM

umm i am signed into messenger thats indicated in the attached screenshot as the messenger tray icon clearly indicates that. i dont know if messengerdiscovery requires a login if it does then its pretty useless to all as the site is permantly offline non stop so the software would therefore be forever unusable if thats the case.

the documentation of messenger discovery:

Try going thru a proxy or something that doesn't rely on your ISP's DNS. If you have issues with geting onto the MessengerDiscovery website then contact your ISP because it must be an issue with them.

RE: Messenger Discovery by stuartbennett on 11-06-2004 at 01:42 PM

i have just got off the phone to my isp's broadband support line. according to their technicians http://www.messengerdiscovery.com and http://tabserve.msnfanatic.com DO NOT EXIST it is that simple. however they did say that if you guys who claim to have access to these sites can give me the ip address associated with these sites then they can investigate this problem much further.

RE: Messenger Discovery by RaceProUK on 11-06-2004 at 03:01 PM

www.messengerdiscovery.com - 64.246.50.17
tabserve.msnfanatic.com - 67.19.206.244

However, I don't believe it is possible to access the sites on the IPs alone.

RE: Messenger Discovery by Millenium_edition on 11-06-2004 at 03:05 PM

use the hosts file =)

code:
64.246.50.17 www.messengerdiscovery.com
67.19.206.244 tabserve.msnfanatic.com

RE: Messenger Discovery by stuartbennett on 11-06-2004 at 03:24 PM

Search the forum: "windows hosts file"

127.0.0.1       localhost

thats the contents of my hosts file now what do i do with this?

RE: Messenger Discovery by Millenium_edition on 11-06-2004 at 04:17 PM

append the 2 lines I gave you

67.19.206.244 tabserve.msnfanatic.com

that is an exact copy of my hosts file after following millennium editions instructions. now i have attached a screenshot of what happens when i browse to these sites after this change. after an extensive conversation with ntl broadband support they claim that these 2 sites DO NOT EXIST and that they are merely empty directories.
RE: Messenger Discovery by CookieRevised on 11-06-2004 at 04:32 PM

I don't think it will work, the sites aren't configed to use the IP's.

Multiple sites/domains can be on one IP address. They probably didn't configure a default.

and stuartbennett, you already should know this because this is already been told in that other thread of yours: http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=34129
RE: Messenger Discovery by stuartbennett on 11-06-2004 at 04:47 PM

personally i dont get where your going with this. im trying to find a solution to my problem. my problem is i cannot access www.messengerdiscovery.com and http://tabserve.msnfanatic.com i just want to be able to access these sites. i am willing to do whatevers neccessarry to access them as long as i get to them in the end. so what exactly do i have to do to make this happen?

RE: Messenger Discovery by saralk on 11-06-2004 at 04:48 PM

RE: Messenger Discovery by stuartbennett on 11-06-2004 at 04:51 PM

tell NTL to update their DNS servers.

and, a simple google search will solve your "i got no proxy" issue. http://www.google.com/search?q=proxy%20list&svnum...fe=off&sa=N&tab=iw

ok yes that should solve my proxy problem. now then regarding ntl. they told me that their servers cache is up to date so that you guys's isps are obviously running on servers that havent updated their cache recently and thats why you can still see these sites and that as soon as those servers get updated you will experience the exact same prob i am having.

yay i added a proxy server to my internet explorer settings and now i can access both sites perfectly. thanks millennium edition for being so patient with me i know im a pain in the butt so thanks. now then how do i ungrey my options button on messengerdiscovery?
RE: Messenger Discovery by Si_Singh on 11-06-2004 at 06:12 PM

to ungrey the options just sign in and back out again and if that dnt werk exit msn and then open agen

RE: Messenger Discovery by stuartbennett on 11-06-2004 at 07:24 PM

umm heres a though on reading the news page @ www.messengerdiscovery.com it says that messenger 7 compatability will be added in version 3 which is being released in 2005 and current version is 2.6.1 so maybe those greyed out options are greyed out cause md is not yet compatable with messenger 7.0. by the way si_singh your suggestions didnt work.

RE: Messenger Discovery by Si_Singh on 11-06-2004 at 07:29 PM

what proxy u using stuart? i got msn 6.1 and that sorted mine, so prob depend on the msn.

RE: Messenger Discovery by stuartbennett on 11-06-2004 at 07:42 PM

im using the following proxy:

host19-225.pool8018.interbusiness.it port 8080

Config:
msn messenger 7.0.0332
messenger plus 3.40.107
messengerdiscovery 2.6.1
windows xp pro sp2
