The web interface is quite inconvenient for me, as it doesn't work in my main browser... :-/

How do u get a gmail account?

RE: Gmail offers POP3 by Tochjo on 11-10-2004 at 10:40 PM

As wj mentioned, existing users get invitations which they can give out. When someone sends you an invitation, you can create a new account.

Actually , You didnt even take the time to check the validity of that did you?

Infact , You have to enable POP3 from the POP3 settings before it will work for a POP3 Program!
RE: Gmail offers POP3 by ShawnZ on 11-11-2004 at 12:31 AM

POP (Post Office Protocol) is used to get e-mails from a mailserver to your computer where it will be saved.

RE: Gmail offers POP3 by user13774 on 11-11-2004 at 05:04 PM

So this means you can retreive and view your Gmail mails with Outlook (Express) or any other software supporting POP3

....and msg plus! no? MSG Plus supports pop 3.... so you would be able to check gmail through msn? am i right? or completly wrong? :p

Anyways, i use the google notifier... so i might not be using this feature too much....
RE: Gmail offers POP3 by Moo on 11-11-2004 at 08:48 PM

Well... Outlook is better than the website to manage mail...

RE: Gmail offers POP3 by Maniac on 11-11-2004 at 08:50 PM

Well it all depends on how you like it, i personally love the way mail is organized on Gmail, it's just simple to use and loads fast.

RE: Gmail offers POP3 by aNILEator on 11-12-2004 at 04:52 PM

i like the web interface, but i'm trying to use thunderbird to organise them, atm gmail online is winning

Yeah that's what I like about gmail too. No stupid flash advertisements on top or complex gui to load like Hotmail.

But this will get rid of the need for google notfier, there are probably programs that do the same thing with pop3.

Can someone take a screen shot of the settings in Msg Plus! I know what to do with my username/password and email address, but I'm not sure what server/port thing I need to use. :(

U need this info which you can find in your Gmail help center:

Incoming Mail (POP3) Server – requires SSL: pop.gmail.com
Use SSL: Yes
Port: 995

Does Msgplus support SSL by the way?... 8-)...

ah okay, thanks, I don't think it works with MsgPlus!. I've been playing around with the settings but had no luck, so I posted on here. Thanks anyway. :) Hopefully it'll be a feature in the next MsgPlus! version.
RE: Gmail offers POP3 by mad_onion on 11-17-2004 at 05:35 PM

im the one that started the thread but i just got my pop access today can someone tell me exactly what to put in the server box in msg plus. it says
Server                  :110

do i leave the last bit as 110 and just put 995 in the last box? i cant make that work:(
also do i put my full username in the username box with @gmail or leave that out?

RE: Gmail offers POP3 by user27089 on 11-17-2004 at 05:51 PM

Can someone please send me an email to my gmail account just to test it please, I have it set as:

Server; pop.gmail.com:110
traxor *****************

my email is traxor[at]gmail.com

RE: Gmail offers POP3 by Moo on 11-17-2004 at 07:46 PM

Gmail's POP system doesn't work well with MsgPlus!' POP email feature... Gmail will think that you have viewed the emails checked and you wont be able to get them in Outlook or whatever program you use...

RE: Gmail offers POP3 by user13774 on 11-17-2004 at 07:48 PM

110 is wrong dudes. Didn't you check ur New Features thing at gmail :S

It should be:
E-mail: blablablabla@gmail.com
POP3: pop.gmail.com
Port (in the box nex to ':'): 995
Login: [Your FULL gmail address including @gmail.com]
Password: [Ur password for gmail]

But I guess it doesn't work as it says it REQUIRES SSL.
