You don't need to make two posts about the same topic (although I think you have deleted one of them.) It should go away by itself (it should only appear once.)

RE: Mcafee by user35870 on 11-13-2004 at 11:39 PM

i deleted it by mistake instead of editing it sorry it comes up everytime

RE: Mcafee by _Humphreys on 11-13-2004 at 11:43 PM

By any chance could you post a screenshot. To take a screenshot press the prntscreen key to copy the screen. Then paste it in paint or some other photo editing software and save it as a Jpg. Then if it's not too big in file size upload it to this server with the Attachment function at the bottom of the reply screen.

Upload at this website : http://www.sighost.org/
and post the image in the post using the img button above the message reply box.

P.S. try not to double post.

Edit : This comes up everytime this is ment to be like this McAfee made it so this would pop up every time you start it up.

RE: Mcafee by user35870 on 11-14-2004 at 12:09 AM

so there is no way of stopping it :(

RE: Mcafee by _Humphreys on 11-14-2004 at 12:10 AM

No this shows that McAfee is running if it wasn't it would say McAfee ..FireWall, AntiVirus are not running.

RE: Mcafee by user35870 on 11-14-2004 at 12:11 AM

It's called a splash screen. Splash screens are used in many programs, it is indeed just to show you that the program is starting.

However in many programs you can turn the splash screen off. In fact I woud be suprised if there wasn't an option in McAfee Security Center to turn its splash screen off. Take a close look at the options, preferences and/or settings.

I must admit Cookie I feel his pain it is bludy annoying espcially on a p3 which can't take many programs starting up at the same time and I don't need splash screens to add to that aswell. I can see it is running as the McAfee icon is red in the system tray (if it wasn't it would be black 8-).) Last time I checked I don't think you could turn the spalsh off.:(

In fact, after a simple google search ("splash screen" "security center" "mcafee") here is the solution:

** If you're familiar with the registry editor:

in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run add the parameter /nosplash after the startup line of mcagent.exe.

** If you're not familiar with the registry editor:

Be very carefully and don't do anything else then described here:
1) Go to Start > Run
2) Type in regedit and press enter.
3) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
4) There you'll see a list of programs which start up when you boot up Windows. Double-click on MCAgentExe.
5) Add the parameter /nosplash to the end of the shown string, so you will get something like:
"c:\program files\mcafee.com\agent\mcagent.exe" /nosplash
6) Close the Registry Editor and reboot your PC.

EDIT: this is even listed on the McAfee help pages as well!

Meh, I don't think they'll care...it's a splash screen just to say it's loading, not a big deal. I'm surprised they tell people to do stuff in the registry to get rid of it, tbh...I'd have thought they'd have made an option
RE: Mcafee by _Humphreys on 11-14-2004 at 02:33 PM

I care when I have McAfee on my p3 not my p4 just takes to much of my p3 power to get it too load.

It takes around 7000k of memory when it's loaded...and since you have that computer connected to the internet I'd do it...
