Talking to people in a sidebar by adamgessel on 11-14-2004 at 10:51 PM

Okay, I have thought this for a long time, but I think that it would be awesome to have a little sidebar in firefox or internet explorer that would make it so that you can view and talk to your contacts while you are surfing the web. So, if you read this patchou, if you ever have some extra time or something, this could be a good idea... I dunno, I think that it'd be awesome.

webmessenger??? save as a bookmark and tick the option box of LOAD THIS PAGE IN SIDEBAR

i dunno if it would work, i see no reason why it shouldn't

RE: Talking to people in a sidebar by adamgessel on 11-15-2004 at 12:07 AM

Maybe that'd display the messenger thing... but it probably woudn't work for contacts.

It's probably best written as a Firefox extension that finds all contact windows and embeds them in a sidebar. When Firefox is closed, it would then recreate the original chat windows.

That's a good idea raceprouk :), since I use Firefox and Firefox rules!! :P

RE: Talking to people in a sidebar by aNILEator on 11-15-2004 at 11:53 AM

tht would take some uber leet coding i think :D

RE: Talking to people in a sidebar by adamgessel on 11-15-2004 at 09:58 PM

Probably, but it'd be worth it... I'd agree that it should be done as an extension in Firefox... since that's what everyone is using now including me...

That would be totally cool anyone willing to make it?(Y)

RE: Talking to people in a sidebar by adamgessel on 11-15-2004 at 11:55 PM

This might be better implemented as an improvement to Plus' docking feature. If plus could dock to the side of the screen, and have other windows maximize around it, then you'd have it as a sidebar, always visible. the only problem is, this would apply to all applications, not just the browser.

RE: Talking to people in a sidebar by Cromp on 11-16-2004 at 09:19 PM

maxthon browser already has this feature as a plugin.

RE: Talking to people in a sidebar by slimanus on 11-17-2004 at 11:34 PM

is there a plugin for internet explorer?

RE: Talking to people in a sidebar by adamgessel on 11-18-2004 at 10:15 PM

No...  I've looked all over. There isn't even a plugin for the Maxthon or whatever its called browser, so don't even try it. You can dock the main window to the browser, but it has no effect on the conversation windows. So...  yeah if there's anybody out there willing to program is (I would but I dunno how to program :D) then please try... I think it'd be a great plugin,

an alternative is to have one in the taskbar
for example, click and dracg my computer to the right or left edge of the screen, it generates a box with all the icons

you could use that idea to run it, you could also have buttons like in firefox to switch through the convos

RE: Talking to people in a sidebar by adamgessel on 11-19-2004 at 09:37 PM

That's a good idea about the switching contacts thing in Firefox... but yeah I don't really get what your talking about with the My Computer stuff... seems kinda complicated. Anyways, I was thinking that in the browser there needs to be some kind hot button (like pressing Ctrl + M) to get into MSN Messenger really fast or something...

RE: Talking to people in a sidebar by Vantage on 11-19-2004 at 11:42 PM

woudn't that be editing browsers apearence in an Illegal way?, and MSN Messenger?

RE: Talking to people in a sidebar by Fergy on 11-20-2004 at 12:03 AM

Firefox dude, Firefox
and if editing msn was illegal, we would have no msgplus

PS: I'm not a Firefox freak, every browser has pros and cons

Then why dont you use the taskbar ;)
RE: Talking to people in a sidebar by adamgessel on 11-20-2004 at 02:31 AM

That's why you make an extension for Firefox... that's not illegal. You shouldn't even have to edit any code in MSN Messenger, therefore, not illegal.

Yep keep thinking/telling that to yourself fanboy

Most (this includes more than 50%) of users us Internet Explorer so i doubt anyone will ever make something with a Messenger Plus! plugin and Firefox.

Nice try and idea but aint gonna work....
RE: Talking to people in a sidebar by adamgessel on 11-21-2004 at 01:59 AM

Why not? People make extensions a lot for Firefox, so I don't see why they couldn't make this.

And I'm not a "fanboy".

I suggest you keep that sort of comment to yourself.
There are loads of extensions for FireFox, and I'm sure one that embeds Messenger conversations into a sidebar will be more popular than you seem to think.

So, before you slag of people who use alternative software, remember: the alternative is often better.

And yes, I speak from experience.
