_________ Today by .blade// on 11-21-2004 at 06:56 PM

Well I was just thinking - I have plenty of sites I check daily (Such as the plus! forums). Though I really hate the MSN today pop-up (bcz it never has anything I need to know :P) [I have it disabled], what about a custom "________ today" feature?

For example: You could set it up to open a window to Plus! Forums - latest posts and HBO when MSN launches - and maybe an option to open it in a small pop-up (like MSN Today) or your regular, full-szied [default] browser.

Just a simple suggestion I thought of, and I didn't see any other threads suggesting this.  What do you guys think?

Yes I wouldn't mind this at all maybe you could make a plug-in to do this or maybe Patchou will include it into the next plus! either way I would use it. Are you offering to make it blade if so I would back you!:)

You can change your MSN Today URL with Tab Manager

RE: _________ Today by _Humphreys on 11-21-2004 at 07:05 PM

I think he means make a custom plus! one with latest plus/forum news. That link doesn't work for me!

No, I mean a custom one which you can configure how you want.

I wouldn't want it to just change the little pop-up URL. For me, I'd like to be able to set it to open 3 or so browser windows, or maybe just 1 firefox window (if possible) with 3 tabs set to different custom URL's...

Personally I think this happening will have bad consequences, all the sponsor flaming we get and now a window opening to this forum and to random Plus websites every time it loads...even if it was disabled by default people would accidentally allow it and not understand it's purpose...and is there really a point?

Well this happens in MSN automatically so it won't harm to have one in plus!. If one was put in it could be automatically disabled and you have to enable it by prefrences.

i dont like this idea same as Anubis.. It is very annyoing to open up messenger when you want to talk to your friend and at the same time your computer is trying to open a website simultaneously..

Why should it even be a messenger plus plugin, why dont u just make some shortcuts on your desktop so you can get your news whenever you feel like it without getting it to open on important/uneeded times

RE: _________ Today by .blade// on 11-21-2004 at 07:50 PM

It could be off by default guys :dodgy: There could be a description right there, and no default URL would be entered...

ANd no, I don't want to clutter up my desktop with a bunch of shortcuts...

I'm not a very skilled programmer, but I'm going to try to figure out the Plus! plug-in API and put something together, if nobody else is....:dodgy:

RE: _________ Today by Patchou on 11-21-2004 at 08:05 PM

I won'Tadd this kindof thing to Plus!, I'm pretty sure Microsoft will improve the MSN Today window themselves anyway. I don't like the idea of poping up something myself at every start.

same, id find it to be annoying, when i open msn, i just want it to open msn not all these other websites, if i want to check the news or forums etc  ill go to my browser and open it there.
RE: _________ Today by CookieRevised on 11-23-2004 at 07:01 PM

Or why don't you make your own page with those links/info/whatever and add it to your custom tabs list with TabServe?
(or directly add your links (like HBO) to TabServe for that matter)

That's exactly the reason why it is there...

RE: _________ Today by Pr0xY on 11-23-2004 at 07:10 PM

How about just make this idea into a Plug-In... that way the people who want it can just download the Plug-In for it, and those who don't want it, well they obviously wont have it, since it doesn't come with Plus!

How about just using the tools which are out there (and are almost specially made for such things) instead of reinventing the wheel?... that way the people who want it can just use the existing tools...

My point in general: Why must everything be crammed into MSN Messenger, Messenger Plus! or a plugin when there are already tools out there which do it perfectly?

I'm not dishing the idea, but I'm dishing the idea that everything must be made into Messenger, Plus!, or a plugin while there are perfectly working (and sometimes specialy made) tools for it already. Explore the things that are already out there instead of reinventing everything (and making it bloated for others).

PS: Sorry for the general rant. If someone wants to make the plugin, go ahead of course. (<sarcasm>and while at it, make me a plugin were I can write documents and save them</sarcasm>)
RE: _________ Today by Stigmata on 11-23-2004 at 08:55 PM

ok here is a prototype :)

Un-tested though :(

RE: _________ Today by user27089 on 11-23-2004 at 09:01 PM

I've just installed it and nothings happening at all. It just creates a small delay when the contact list has finished loading, and then just carries on as normal.

RE: _________ Today by Stigmata on 11-30-2004 at 05:46 PM

RE: _________ Today by Eljay on 11-30-2004 at 06:03 PM
