Audion conv. can't connect by KuzuRyuuSen on 11-24-2004 at 11:32 PM

Hi, all. I'm having problem in using audio conversation with my friend, then  i tried using 2 computers at home to start audio conversation, when i press accept, nothing happens. Usually, there is a message trying to connect... or something on the bottom part of the window conversation. When I used Messenger Plus, i couldn't connect anymore. Is there something wrong with my router or something (port forwarding setting)? btw, i'm using linksys router BEFW11S4. Any help would be appreciated.... thx...

Could you connect before installing Messenger Plus!? Because, MP! shouldn't affect audio conversations.

Maybe you are behind a DSL NAT, (M) can hardly send video/audio in this type of connections.

I don't think using audio on two computers behind the same router would work anyway, maybe on some occasions. You should try something like Skype.

If you are using a hardware router or non-xp internet sharing service you will not be able to use Video and Voice in Messenger. Messenger uses a technology called Universal Plug and Play (UPnP). Currently the only internet sharing (NAT) software that is UPnP compatible is the built in Internet Sharing included with Windows XP. Hardware and software vendors are building UPnP support into their products and should be available soon. For firewalls, the built-in Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall opens the ports for video/voice automatically, but other firewalls do allow video/voice to pass -- by opening ports 5004-65535.
