/clead default 1? Why not 2? by Maniac on 12-07-2004 at 11:36 PM

I was just wondering... why is the default value of /clear 1 and not 2... it doesn't make sense...

99.99% of the time you will use the /clear to hide something from others... to pretend it was never said before... now if someone comes to ur window and only sees a line without ".... says:" it looks suspicious and they know u hid something from them...

Now considering most messages are 1 liners... it makes more sense to make it /clear 2 as default...

No?

if you prefer the default to be two lines, you can edit the registry to change the default value, or you can use this program to change the value instead of messing around the registry

I prefer it to be "0" tbh....

i'd be happy if there is even an option to clear all lines, as of now, there's no way to clear all lines, there must be one line left over

hence I said I'd like it to be "0"... :D

Oh, and about what registry setting are you talking about? AFAIK, there is no such setting...

damn, and I was looking like crazy for it :D

Anyways, good suggestion though
"default value for the /clear command (including "0")".

EDIT:
as for the default value, this can be done with a quicktext though. eg:
Quicktext alias: /clear
Quicktext text: /clear 5

so I doubt it will be added.... hmmm... still leaves the "0" problem :D

Talking about the "0 lines", its funny that Patchou has nver replied to previous threads like this one, so i hope he replies now :dodgy: :P

Fraisie said once that it was a limitation.

I found the solution to leaving 0 lines while clearing screen :)

make a quick text call it /cls
define /cls:

code:
*clear screen* (ignore this message)

#/clear
the only downside is that your contact will see the line
quote:
*clear screen* (ignore this message)
but who cares what they see, it's what I see that really matter

I asked Patchou about it once and he said it was a limitation.

Yea.. well known limitation for the /clear command..

If you want to remove all the lines with /Clear  then the only thing i could think of is to send a Message with a blank line (Eg ALT+160) and then /clear, so the last line appears as nothing :-/

Edit: And gnownoskcid already said this :P lol

but then you could say, why not 4? or 5, cos it might be a 2 line msg... just hit Esc.... then you wont have a prob :P
