Help me build my demo PC! by .blade// on 12-14-2004 at 02:49 AM

Ok, like I said before - I'm going to [try to] start a computer building business. To do so I first have to build a demo PC for people to see. My budget isn't very high atm, so some parts will be ones I already have laying around. I hopefully will get some of these parts for less on boxing day.

Anywhos, these are the parts I'm trying to build (prices from Futureshop.ca)

[$ CAD]
128.99  Case w/ 300W power supply (picture above)
269.99  2.8 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 Processor (May take a 3.0 or 3.2 Ghz processor)
199.99  ATI Radeon 256mb Video Card (AGP)
19.99  LED Cooling Fans
30.00  neon light
-------------------------
Aprox.  $648.00 CAD

The parts I already have are:
3.5" Floppy drive
DVD Reader
DVD R/W
120 GB HDD
A-Open  Motherboard
384 mb RAM (Edit: Going to upgrade that to 1152mb DDR ram )
Wires/Connectors

For demos we also have a 5.1 Surround Sound digital audio system, 17" BenQ Flat Panel LCD display,  Logitech Gaming Keyboard and Logitech MX500 Gaming mouse.

Note: This PC would be my own personal PC aswell as a demo model for Gearbox.

My question is: do you think this is a good configuration for a demo model?

I know it looks good, and no, I'm not going to build you one for free :P

I need to know if you think the spec.s are good enough for demos (I'm prob. going to also buy 2x 512mb sticks of ram, then the PC will have a total of 1152mb ram.

Looking sexy lol ... 8-).

I really like it and I love the parts, my mate has that exact case, the specs are different though, I'm going to try and build a pc soon, I can get the parts quite cheap, but its just the software and stuff that we cost me quite a bit, I'm not sure what case I'm going to get, either way, I don't want it to have transparent sides, i think its kind of ugly, although I may have it, I haven't really decided on what I'm going to get yet. :).

^o) AMD consumes less power but isn't as good as Intel IMO. Btw, I already said I'm getting a P4 2.80Ghz, though I MAY get a 3.0 or 3.2 :P

I'll post a picture of the PC I use as a demo for people who I build them for. It's quite the lucrative business because you need to support the systems when they go bad. For example I had a customers hd just puke and they lost the XP install. All there data was ok, but XP was just Dead. Spent 3 hours at there house re-installing XP and re-associating all there programs with the registry.

Yes, I'm aware of the support aspect :p
