RE: Firefox 1.0 released by Agent 98 on 12-15-2004 at 06:20 PM

I downloaded and installed Firefox last week, and it worked for a couple of days, but then it got fucked and would freeze every time I opened it, so I'm back with IE.

RE: Firefox 1.0 released by Pinball on 12-15-2004 at 06:45 PM

Same here. Firefox ain't that good after all.

RE: Firefox 1.0 released by MessEnGer on 12-15-2004 at 07:15 PM

i love it much better then IE

RE: Firefox 1.0 released by Jimcando on 12-15-2004 at 07:32 PM

yeh, same here, its never failed me yet. its much better than IE but only really 'cause mine looks better (with Noia 2.0 skin) and it has tabbed browsing. that is pretty much all that is better about it.

o, and the downloads window which i like ;-)

RE: Firefox 1.0 released by .blade// on 12-15-2004 at 07:41 PM

Firefox hasn't failed me yet, and the only reason I could think of that it would be crashing is you guys have a trojan

BTW, Version 1.0 final, and version, 1.0 RC1 and 1.0 BETA Came out in october. came out on November 9th, 2004

RE: Firefox 1.0 released by user27089 on 12-15-2004 at 07:42 PM

I like it for a few reasons:

  • Great Download Manager
  • Built in popup blocker
  • Tabbed Browser
  • Lots of plugins
  • Loads of Themes
  • Faster than internet explorer
  • Has the bookmark toolbar which I love and use
  • Make all sites have the same font, font size and font colour
  • Images Render as they download

:)

Much longer actually... and it was never "released", they were just nightlies or periodic compilations... it was called Phoenix then...

err... you can use that as a homepage with IE as well :P
Just put http://www.google.com/firefox as your start page.

RE: Firefox 1.0 released by GiantSpider on 12-15-2004 at 08:05 PM

RE: Firefox 1.0 released by kangie on 12-15-2004 at 08:07 PM

RE: Firefox 1.0 released by GiantSpider on 12-15-2004 at 08:57 PM

Well there is a Google Search intergrated into the browser you know............

RE: Firefox 1.0 released by L. Coyote on 12-15-2004 at 10:08 PM

I've been using Firefox since 0.9, and it's very good.

Has a few minor bugs, but overall it's a great browser, much better than IE.

RE: Firefox 1.0 released by ZrednaZ on 12-15-2004 at 10:22 PM

I've also been using Firefox for quite some time now, and I like its speed, no doubt about it. However, there are a few problems...

*Sometimes when browsing forums, FF won't automatically adjust the page to the size of your browser window, thus forcing you to horizontal scroll back and forth for every line of text (a pain the the neck)

*Search bar way too difficult to widen (you need to manually create a configuration file and then put some settings in there.

*PDF files cause FF to crash - each and every time. Tested the reader with IE, works just fine. Haven't tried reinstalling either programs, though. Maybe this would help...

I find that firefox crashes much more often then IE, in fact i think 0.1 is more stable than 1.0

and what's the advantage to just plain www.google.com?

pdf files never have any problem with my firefox 1.0, try reinstalling the reader

All in all, I like firefox better due to the tab browsing thingy and extensions :D I use IE to load pages that don't work properly in firefox

fixing the page width issue is easy with the bookmarklet that i have attached whenever it is run it will remove the scroll bar by wrapping all the text.
and pdf filkes work fine for me maby you need to reinstalll the latest one from adobe?

make a new bookmark called wrap and then in the location feild paste this
code:
javascript:(function() { var D = document; F(D.body); function F(n) { var u, r, c, x; if (n.nodeType == 3) { u = n.data.search(/\S{45}/); if (u >= 0) { r = n.splitText(u + 45); n.parentNode.insertBefore(D.createElement('wbr'), r); } } else if ((n.tagName != 'STYLE') && (n.tagName != 'SCRIPT')) { for (c = 0; x = n.childNodes[c]; ++c) { F(x); } } } D.body.innerHTML += ' '; })();

Thanks for the tip, -dt-. They couldn't even provide me with a solution on the official Firefox forum, so I'm surprised to find one here.
I haven't been able to test the bookmark yet, but I suppose it works. :)
