Fried CPU! (Picture!) by .blade// on 12-19-2004 at 02:29 AM

Without me noticing, the cpu coolant fan on my secondary PC stopped working (a wire broke). So dust built up and the CPU over-heated :P

Surprisingly enough, it still works, but not very well :P Picture below:

cool! I've never seen a burnt cpu before. The picture could be clearer though.

Note to self-every once and a while check fan on computer...:p

RE: Fried CPU! (Picture!) by Striker on 12-19-2004 at 04:17 AM

just download motherboard monitor 5, and make sure your cpu temp doesn't get to high :)

LOL, I know about MBM but I don't care bcz it uses more resources than it's worth. Btw, what use would MBM be to a fried CPU? :P
RE: Fried CPU! (Picture!) by uberdosis on 12-19-2004 at 05:25 AM

Nice work.

RE: Fried CPU! (Picture!) by matty on 12-19-2004 at 09:08 AM

This wasn't the pc you guys were trying to overclock was it?

No more release updates are going to be made for MBM :(

Apparently not

RE: Fried CPU! (Picture!) by user27089 on 12-19-2004 at 11:10 AM

This explains it all: Celeron :refuck:

Thats quite bad actually, I should really check mine sometimes lol, cause my pc is almost 2 years old and I've never opened it up, but there haven't really been any problems with it tbh :).

RE: Fried CPU! (Picture!) by user35870 on 12-19-2004 at 12:42 PM

how old was the computer?

RE: Fried CPU! (Picture!) by John Anderton on 12-19-2004 at 02:53 PM

Thats gr8. But hows yr pc still workin ??? Take care next time ??? And how come u didn't notice yr fan not workin ??

RE: Fried CPU! (Picture!) by FrozernFire on 12-19-2004 at 03:50 PM

it's quite quiet without the fan.
i have heard of people overclocking the chip and using liquid hydrogen to cool it in japan :dodgy: try it blade!

What LIQUID HYDROGEN !!!!
Thats the most amazing thing i've heard all month !!!
Even a spark and bye bye home !!!
Why dont ya use a software which i once had (search on google) which tells your processor temp. it will start an alarm if its too high.

My Answer: Well Blade's Pc is still working so he may need MBM5. He should take care of his pc more;)

he is smart enough to realize that ¬_¬ blade is not a noob in these kind of stuff. he had fun burning the CPU.

I hate them too, but like I said b4 - it was made out of spare parts, and the processor was my freind's :P

^o)
* .blade// wonders wtf is fun about his fan breaking and his secondary CPU smoldering :P
I didn't do it on purpose, but either way I'm not a n00b. It was a deffective part, it's as simple as that.

PS
Wtf are you guys on about? It was my secondary PC, built out of spare parts. The fan my bud gave me musta been deffective, and the CPU was 5 or 6 years old anyways (:dodgy: Celeron 700 mhz).

:dodgy: Blade do you think that our little Msgplus forum member chat over Messenger had anything to do with that? :refuck:

hydrogen is explosive too.
RE: Fried CPU! (Picture!) by .blade// on 12-20-2004 at 03:31 AM

I doubt Liquid Hydrogen would be widly used because if whatever's holding it ever burst then all your PC parts (and prob. the carpet the PC was on) would be garbage.

DJeX  Burt CPU Pic

DJeX hopes blade builds better PC's for his business :mipdodgy:

RE: Fried CPU! (Picture!) by Jhrono on 12-20-2004 at 09:53 AM

Ok that shit scared me :P...i allways leave the pc turned on at night(for my purposes) and today i was fuckin scared to leave it!!:D

btw mine ain't celeron :P...

Making a cooling system that relies purely on liquid hydrogen is a dumb idea because of this, yes.
But I remember hearing a super-computer that was linked to a system that would quickly pump Liquid Hydrogen around the supercomputer in event that it was overheating...As long as it is contained inside the tubing around the system, and isn't exposed to high amounts of energy, it should be ok...

RE: Fried CPU! (Picture!) by C3PO on 12-22-2004 at 08:51 AM

my cpu gets to an an average temparture of around 80 celcuis ( or howevah its spelled) whats an appopiate tempature for it to be on and whats to high?

RE: Fried CPU! (Picture!) by Birdo on 12-22-2004 at 09:05 AM

im runngin dual 2.4 ghz intel processors atm. evertying seem fine .. noo burnt out cpus for me.. thou i think my graphics card mite be on its way out :(

RE: Fried CPU! (Picture!) by TheBlasphemer on 12-23-2004 at 07:15 PM

HAHAHA!
LIQUID HYDROGEN FOR COOLING A PC?!

ROFL :P

No, seriously, Hydrogen is like the most epxlosive substance on earth, it will ignite with the smallest spark, and that could very easily happen in your PC!

I think you're talking about liquid nitrogen now ;)

RE: Fried CPU! (Picture!) by Titty on 12-23-2004 at 11:10 PM

lol, that made me laugh.

Unfortunate :\

RE: Fried CPU! (Picture!) by JedeyeNite on 12-24-2004 at 02:30 PM

Umm, that  isnt a melted cpu....
That metallic stuff around the core is just whats left of your thermal compound...
A 700mhz celron couldnt produce enough heat to melt a core.

Liquid nitrogen isnt that great as a cpu cooling tool. It may be extreamly cold, which is good for a short ammount of time, eventually it will warm up and getting rid of the heat in the LN qould be rather problematic.
The only useful way of doing it, would be to just keep adding more liquid nitrogen, which is how the supercomputers do it.

Overheating stuff is definatly fun tho :D

Dude, it's melted. I know what I'm talking about. It fried, it's black and burnt and smells like it's burning when you boot it. the melted stuff is the buffer that seperates the heatsync and the processor.
RE: Fried CPU! (Picture!) by paperless on 12-24-2004 at 10:21 PM

I had problems with my fan.. it stopped working well... the problem was the part were the fan was attached broken up..
The pc started but it just turned off like 1 ssecond later after turning it on and my processors didnt burn or anything.. probably coz its an AMD.. eheh mine is 3 years old.. (i want a new oneeeeeeee)

most motherboards these days shut down when the temperature is rising too much.

I see people who are scared now of using a Celeron because a fan stopped working and the cpu burned. This could have happend with all cpu's. If the cable got loose then you didn't plugged it in properly. I wonder what else is sitting loose...

80°C is not good :-/, you have to bring it down. Install some fans to create more airflow in your case.

you will see it when things go wrong with your graphics card. You'll get blocks in your screen. If you get this, shut down your computer immediatly and get a fan for your graphics card.

Mines a pentium III :\ and i use my laptop... my desktop is my secondary one (on celeron :|)
