Suprnova.org is closing down! :( by leito on 12-19-2004 at 10:52 PM

"Greetings everybody,

As you have probably noticed, we have often had downtimes. This was because it was so hard to keep this site up!
But now we are sorry to inform you all, that SuprNova is closing down for good in the way that we all know it.
We do not know if SuprNova is going to return, but it is certainly not going to be hosting any more torrent links.
We are very sorry for this, but there was no other way, we have tried everything.

Thank you all that helped us, by donating mirrors or something else, by uploading and seeding files, by helping people out on IRC and on forum, by spreading the word about SuprNova.org.
It is a sad day for all of us!

Please visit SuprNova.org every once in a while to get the latest news on what is happening and if there is anything new to report on.

As we wish to maintain the nice comunity that we created, we are keppig forums and irc servers open.

Thank you all and Goodbye!
sloncek & the rest of the SuprNova Team "

Bad news.... do you know another good site?

# Illegal Content: You may not post illegal things or information about them. This includes, but is not limited to:

    * warez, or other illegally distributed software.
    * hacking tools.
    * pornography or nudity not safe for children.

Does talking about sharing communities violates this? I can understand it with Links, etc. But now just talking, hope we can have a nice chat of good sharing communities.

It doesnt. Just keep the discussion on that topic and it wont need the iron fist of DZ.

RE: Suprnova.org is closing down! :( by DJeX on 12-20-2004 at 07:08 AM

Just found out about SuprNova today. It seems there all going down slowly. Youceff Torrents don't work any more either.

RE: Suprnova.org is closing down! :( by -dt- on 12-20-2004 at 07:13 AM

:'( torrentbits.org (the best private torrent traker) died too , but it seems like it wasnt because of the MPAA or the RIAA it was just because of redbeards (the owner) life at the moment or something

:-/

I don't know for sure, but fyi, one of my friends once told me that Suprnova was being investigated by the government.
So you better don't using it although the site is up again.

I'm not using it though.
I tried, didn't succeed to dl, and wouldn't try it again

This is a pretty big blow to the torrent community, I personally love the whole idea behind it (for a perfectly legal example, when neowin has news on video games vids, a lot of times u can download them via torrents.... pretty sweet)

Oh well... hopefully other sites will rise up... Suprnova was pretty damn good in doing its job though :(

RE: Suprnova.org is closing down! :( by -dt- on 12-20-2004 at 03:30 PM

Theres quite a few smaller torrent sites ( filelist and ET) that tons of people from the shutdown torrent sites are joining .
It shouldnt take that long for the torrent community to get back on its feet tho

I heard this too, all of the torrents are slowly disappearing, but in a way, it will be more business for people who own Napster and stuff anyway :)... Sharing files isn't a good thing, and I completely disagree with Band Aid 20 being allowed to be shared...

Napster only allows for music downloads.

Anyways, I'm not too happy....oh well, I'll find somewhere else.

Personally, i've never actually used bit.torrents at all, I've never found them good to download things, i've always used stuff like kazaa, i'm not too sad about the whole thing happening... just more business for others I suppose :).

You prob. didn't realise you have to jack up your upload speed to be able to download @ a good speed :p
RE: Suprnova.org is closing down! :( by DJeX on 12-20-2004 at 07:32 PM

I don't know if this is against forum rules but we or I should start a thread with all the active and working torrent search sites.

One of the admins get back to me on this.

It is against the rules, its endorsing the use of illegal downloads & supplying the links to-do-so :).

saw this on neowin.

they closed down after they were interviewed by neowin

RE: Suprnova.org is closing down! :( by Menthix on 12-20-2004 at 09:47 PM

Hmmm, it's still supposed to be accessible? I only get time-outs and connection refused :(. I hope Xeem will work out. The SuprNova ppl created Xeem a while ago, it's simulair to their site but doesn't need a central server, because all torent files will be saved on some kind of P2P network. It's currently in beta stage, if it gets public then there is now way RIAA/MPAA can shut it down. Like KaZaA they could only get after individual users :).

* Menthix is moving back to usenet again for the moment.

Sorry to hear about Suprnova but as a very good alternative and one I use a lot, Phoenix.

Just saying the names and URL's of the active torrent sites, isn't agains the forums rules. Since this sites are "legal" until they are declared "illegal". So doesnt violates the forum rules.

that's gonna hit the network hard. though i tried bittorrent yesterday, i had it uninstalled 10min later. it's taking up too much bandwidth

It may not be declared illegal, but the content is in fact illegal, therefore making the site illegal due to its content, and if you post a link to that site which has the illegal content on, then I'm pretty sure that its against the rules?

Please don't. Links to suprnova or similar sites aren't necessarily illegal or against the rules, but many torrent sites make a large amount of dodgy and illegal content available, so let's not spread such links on the MsgPlus Forums.

erm bittorrent loads all the peer info n stuff from a .torrent file so why didnt just slow your upload speed for it or remove the torrent and bittorrent isnt one huge network its ALOT of small ones (well one for each file...)  so what your saying dosnt make any sense to me scice the client takes up no bandwidth unless your seeding/dling a torrent

edit:
and i posted two good private tackers in my last post just incase no one noticed :P
RE: Suprnova.org is closing down! :( by paperless on 12-24-2004 at 10:29 PM

Damn... i used to use this site... well there are anothers.. http://www.torrentspy.com is a good one also...

RE: Suprnova.org is closing down! :( by Kryptonate on 12-26-2004 at 12:09 AM

Bittorrents are good for large files, better than Kazaa or Limewire and others. I heard about Xeem too and I hope it will be widely used soon. Everything based on central servers is faced to go down one day, but there will always be new programs and technologies coming out.

Merry christmas everybody :)
