it would be cool if you enabled MSN Alerts for these forums, so it alerts you to threads that you subscribe to. RE: msn alerts by RaceProUK on 01-08-2005 at 11:05 PM Don't you get the e-mail notifications then? RE: msn alerts by WDZ on 01-09-2005 at 04:19 AM I don't understand... how can you do MSN Alerts unless you're Microsoft? RE: msn alerts by ddunk on 01-09-2005 at 04:21 AM

I think this is a good idea. RE: msn alerts by WDZ on 01-09-2005 at 04:28 AM
Blah... I looked at the site quickly with images disabled and I didn't see everything... quote:You'd still get the e-mails though... Unless I added an option to disable them... RE: RE: msn alerts by Titty on 01-09-2005 at 04:30 AM
quote: Or, I could go to User CP / Edit options Use Email Notification by default: Selecting yes will automatically subscribe you to threads when you make a post in them. And change that to No :] RE: msn alerts by ddunk on 01-09-2005 at 04:32 AM
" Fill out a quick form with information and RSS feed URL." RE: msn alerts by WDZ on 01-09-2005 at 04:33 AM
quote:But if you're not subscribed to any threads, you can't get any alerts about them. quote:Yeah, exactly. Read the edit I made to my post above. RE: msn alerts by Titty on 01-09-2005 at 04:36 AM
But I thought saral was talking about thread alerts. RE: msn alerts by WDZ on 01-09-2005 at 04:40 AM
quote:I think he is. When you're subscribed to a thread, you get e-mail alerts when a reply is made. The same goes for subscribing to a forum: you get e-mail alerts when a new thread is made in a subscribed forum. No subscription = no alerts. RE: msn alerts by Titty on 01-09-2005 at 04:41 AM
Yes. No subsciptions = no alerts = cleaner inbox. RE: msn alerts by WDZ on 01-09-2005 at 05:03 AM When I say "alerts" I mean both e-mail and MSN. RE: msn alerts by saralk on 01-09-2005 at 09:56 AM what about if the script made a personalised rss feed for every person on the forum? RE: msn alerts by WDZ on 01-09-2005 at 10:00 AM
quote:I'd make a subscriptions RSS feed if there was enough demand, because it sounds like a kinda fun project. How many people have RSS readers though? In other words: how many people would be able to take advantage of the feed? RE: msn alerts by Eljay on 01-09-2005 at 10:13 AM
i like the idea a lot RE: msn alerts by WDZ on 01-09-2005 at 10:27 AM
Did a quick search... RE: msn alerts by saralk on 01-09-2005 at 10:28 AM i'd use RSS feeds, and you could use that RSS plugin in the first topic RE: msn alerts by surfichris on 01-09-2005 at 10:39 AM
LiveMessage is actually a pretty big bandwidth waste if you ask me. It downloads the whole feed every time it "crawls" which is about every 15 minutes or so. It does no checking on the last modified time or anything. |
