Refreshing the nick periodically (for showing the local time) by musiphil on 01-09-2005 at 09:40 AM

This is the feature that I have really missed for a long time but never seen in Plus!:
Let the nick refresh periodically by itself, without any user interaction.

I'm not talking about annoying others by putting different lines of lyrics every 6 seconds, but what I really want to do is have my local time available through my nick so that my friends abroad can see what time I am at without calculation. I could have a nick like 'musiphil ((!TH):(!TM))', and it would require the nick refresh only once a minute. Isn't this a nice feature to have in this globalized era where you can have many friends spread all over the world?

There used to be a program called MySweetNix! that did this, but it doesn't work anymore, and I'd really love to see this feature included in my favourite Plus!.

It would be nice, but i don't know if its practicle, every minute your contact would get a toast sayin they have changed there name, its been suggested before showing that its a popular idea, but not so practical

Yeah, like Phrive said, it would be annoying if you have the "Contact has changed his/her name" option of Plus! on.
However, I can do it with DPs...
There are only two problems...
1) You will need Windows Messenger runnning if you have windows XP.
2) When your DP is updated, a new dp would be added to your DP list.
You would have to delete the old DPs if you want to keep your DP list clean...

If every minute is too often, well, it could also be every hour.. if I omit the minute part (which would be the same in almost all timezones). By the way, if the pop-up notices for a particular user's changed nick are annoying, can't it be disabled on a per-user basis?

If changing the nick to show the time is not a good idea at all, maybe there could be other ways to do it.. we'll have to think about it more. :)

By the way, what are 'DP' and 'ADP'?
