My computer and sleep mode by .blade// on 01-12-2005 at 02:18 AM

Well when I hit the sleep mode button on my keyboard or press the "Stand By" button in the windows shutdown menu it just shuts down my PC. Any idea why? It's my new one:

ASUS A8V motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.42ghz (will OC to 2.5 or 2.6 after I get more RAM)
512mb DDR RAM (will upgrade to 2GB next week)
Nvidia GeForce 2 MX 64mb (will upgrade to a 256mb ATI Radeon next month)
120GB HDD
DVD +/- R/RW
Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
(Took the spec.s from my MSN quick text :P)

Edit: Holy shit, it acts funny. It shuts down cuts the power to EVERYTHING (including the fans, which my old PCs didn't do) accept leaving a bit of power to the main parts, and to get it out of sleep mode you have to hit the power button ^o)

sleep mode button = control panel > power options > advanced > then change "when i press the sleep button on my computer" to stand by

also i think theys a bios to turn stand by off (but not certain) so you could check there

No, it usually wakes up when you press a keyboard button or move the mouse, now it only wakes up if you press the power button on the tower :-/

this is just a setting !!! if you go to your keyboard setting somewhere there should be "allow this device to bring computer out of stand by"

control panel > keyboard > hardware > properties > power management > allow this device to bring computer out of stand by

edit
for someone who knows about his computers, you sure do seem to be posting some n00bish things
RE: My computer and sleep mode by .blade// on 01-12-2005 at 02:46 AM

Stop talking to me like I'm a n00b - they are checked, and they're checked by default when Windows is installed 8-) :-/:

i can't help if your askin questions like one :P

well if they checked (now) then it will be able to bring your computer out of stand by. assuming that if they are connected by usb you also have the usb been able to bring the computer out of stand by
RE: My computer and sleep mode by Jeronimo on 01-12-2005 at 02:51 AM

In your BIOS there is sometimes an option to chose how to power up from standby (keyboard, power button etc).

And I don't think you need to keep telling us you have an AMD 64 blade. I think we all know by now ;)

I didn't ask a n00bish questions or say a n00bish thing - my system's sleep mode function is acting funny, and even if someone asks a n00bish thing you should always be polite.
RE: My computer and sleep mode by Jeronimo on 01-12-2005 at 03:09 AM

From what you've described it doesn't sound like a problem. When you press stand by on the computer it does just that surely, puts it in standby? Are you thinking of hibernation?

no its not acting funny !! when a computer goes into sleep, it normally does "turn everthing off expect a bit of power to the main part". most people know that if you press the power button it brings your computer out of sleep mode !! alrite maybe your keyboard isn't bringing it out of stand by, but it will just be a setting somewhere

can i ask how i am been unpolite !! alrite is this last couple of posts i may not have been !! thats just coz your moanin about been treated like a n00b !! when i'm just helping!!. Just coz you think i'm insultin your intelligence doesn't mean im been unpolite.
if anything your the unpolite one sayin "i'm not a fuckin n00b", if you don't want peoples help. don't post your problem then

You might be thinking of hibernation.

RE: My computer and sleep mode by .blade// on 01-12-2005 at 03:32 AM

Yes, it IS acting funny. All the computers I've EVER had have gone out of sleep mode when you use the keyboard or mouse. And about the reputation, it's not being immature - it's the truth. And if it is hibernation that I am think of, then why does this computer behave differently? :-/

and if you config yours properly then your current computer will also do the same !! (oh and just coz computers you have owned before does something, doesn't mean every computer in the world will do the same thing)

What I mean is, they did it out of the box and after a fresh windows install. Both the PCs I have now have the same version of windows, but this one doesn't wake up with the keyboard and mouse - the other one does :-/

I'm just going to stop replying to what you post now because it's pointless. You're being a jack-ass and not helping me anyways so :dodgy:.

Like DJeX said: Whoop-dee fucking doo.

Will this thing change the rest of your life? It's not extremely urgent, and besides if the computers are exactly the same, then they would work exactly the same. Therefore, one of them must be set up differently.

PS. Post your processor/mobo type.

blade: if you keyboard/mouse are connected by usb !! go to device management select your connected for where the keyboard/mouse is and make sure that "turn this off to save power" isn't tick !!

RE: My computer and sleep mode by toddy on 01-25-2005 at 04:50 PM

think i know how to fix your problem !!!

on you motherboard there should be a "wake up header" [for ps2, usb(s)], which is set by default (well it is on most motherboards) to disable !! change that to enable. and u should be able to wake your computer up with your mouse

tbh, most of the questions asked on this forums arent life changing at all yet we still answer them with politeness.
RE: My computer and sleep mode by user2319 on 01-27-2005 at 08:37 PM

There's a difference between hibernate and sleep mode!

Hibernate = shut the computer down, but save everything in memory to a special file, which will be load when you boot again.

standby = standby
