Cd Xbox by *Saint* on 01-15-2005 at 09:46 PM

How does the xbox know if the cd is origanal or not?

RE: Cd Xbox by saralk on 01-15-2005 at 09:48 PM

there are certain marks on the DVD that you cannot make with a DVD-writer, and it checks for those. I *think*

RE: Cd Xbox by *Saint* on 01-15-2005 at 09:50 PM

so i cant copy a music cd to my xbox unless its origanal if i dont have a dvd burner

RE: Cd Xbox by saralk on 01-15-2005 at 09:54 PM

o rite, your talking about copied CDs, basically some CD drives can read CD-Rs, some can't

its to do with the shiny side of the CD, the fact that it is green/blue. Some of the older xbox's can read them, the newer ones can't

RE: Cd Xbox by *Saint* on 01-15-2005 at 09:58 PM

so what can i do about it is there a certain color i need?

RE: Cd Xbox by .blade// on 01-15-2005 at 10:07 PM

There are 3 drives that Microsoft uses for the Xbox:

Thomson is the worst, Samsung is the best. Check your drive. If it's a Samsung it SHOULD play burnt CDs and DVDs

Actually, for some reason Microsoft switches between them :-/
I think they just buy the drive from whoever offers the lowest price at the time. For example, my bud bought an Xbox with a Thoimson, it was deffective. He brought it back the same day and goy an Xbox with a Samsung :S

* _Humphreys thought it was the laser that detected wether or it was copied or not. :P If you change the laser it will play copied stuff. :P

Yes, because it's just so easy to change the laser in a disc reader, not to mention cost effective 8-).  It's a lot cheaper, and SAFER to just get another drive.
RE: Cd Xbox by _Humphreys on 01-16-2005 at 05:26 PM

:P I've just heard of this drive changing thing... will it work with PS2's?

RE: Cd Xbox by .blade// on 01-16-2005 at 05:32 PM

It won't work on the XBOX OR the PS2 unless you get a drive specifically for the XBOX or PS2 and your firmware supports it. By oppening the case, though, you void any warranty you may have had.

Ebay:
XBOX Drive
PS2 Drive

K then i'll try it when the warranty runs out...I broke my ps2 once by trying to fix it as the laser had bogged out lol. :P
RE: Cd Xbox by megamuff on 01-17-2005 at 03:03 AM

COLOUR is not the problem with discs. my computer with an ancient cd rom drive (4 speed, no special disc reading capabilities) can read playstation discs, and they are black, as well it can read normal music cd's and stuff of course.

so its not colour preventing it from reading cd-r/cd-rw/dvd... i dont know the exact reason why, perhaps you can ask a professional.

RE: Cd Xbox by *Saint* on 01-17-2005 at 03:20 AM

im hoping someone here is a professionel :) its just because i wait for my coison to bring her encore cd and i had it copied  and i have other cds i want to copy but i cant

RE: Cd Xbox by .blade// on 01-17-2005 at 03:51 AM

Wait, is it burned as a regular CD, a bunch of music files, or as an MP3CD?

RE: Cd Xbox by *Saint* on 01-17-2005 at 03:53 AM

just a regular cd i sure

RE: Cd Xbox by .blade// on 01-17-2005 at 03:59 AM

Could you open the CD on your computer and take a screenshot of the folder?

RE: Cd Xbox by *Saint* on 01-17-2005 at 04:13 AM

i lent it to my friend i have the songs on my computer still if you want to see that?

RE: Cd Xbox by .blade// on 01-17-2005 at 04:15 AM

This may or may not work, but sometimes the XBOX drive can be dodgy.

Try burning the CD with nero at a low burn speed, and make sure "Finalize CD" is checked.  That may work.

RE: Cd Xbox by *Saint* on 01-17-2005 at 04:18 AM

Did you rip them from the CD and encode them to WMA yourself?
RE: Cd Xbox by *Saint* on 01-17-2005 at 04:27 AM

RE: Cd Xbox by .blade// on 01-17-2005 at 04:31 AM

Try what I told you before with NERO, and/or look at this: http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/repairs.htm

Otherwise I don't know.
