SATA and Windows XP by firegod_666 on 01-17-2005 at 07:13 PM

Hi i am trying to install windows XP home service pack 1 onto a new computer.
It has a Maxtor SATA 120gb drive on it and a gigabyte GA-8S655FX motherboard. Windows currently will not recognise my drive although my BIOS does. Does anybody know what i need to do to it to install?

Is the drive already formatted?
Go to Start > All Programs > Admin Tools > Computer Management. There should be an option in the left pane called Disk Management. If the device shows there, but no drive letter, then it'll need formatting.

If it doesn't show there, check in Device Manager too (Control Panel (Classic View) > System > Hardware). If it's not there, then you'll need to find some SATA drivers from the Microsoft website.
