try choosing another font, or download another copy of this font from the internet, i found some sites that allows you to download original windows fonts for free.
did you set the default font to verdana BOLD? try changing the default font, then try again

Could you post a picture?

i think what he is saying is whenever he tried to change the font, it just keeps "bold"ing itself, even though he disabled it.
*****
so either your msn messenger is messed, or your font. try chaning it into another font and test it. see if it "bolds" by itself again.
post any results :)

Shut down Messenger.  Control Panel --> Display --> Appearance.  Apply any default Windows theme. Test.  If that doesn't work, try applying a different font instead of Verdana.  To test if Verdana is corrupt, find the font in your ..\font\ folder.  Double click it. If your system crashes, the font is damaged.

um i check if my font was damage.. its wasn't damage...
and i went to change the theme it did the same thing...
and then i change my font...every font is bold accept:
arial
couier
lucida console
times new woman
those are the only not bold ones with size 10..
before my verdana size was 12 regular and it wasn't bold now it is.......

but then on the other screen my friend did a screen shot and it was the one i had before
but then in my window it looks very bold!!

Sorry, but those pictures are too small, please post them again and don't resize them, also save them as JPG or GIF.

Well I chatted with her on Messenger, she sent me the screenshots in GIF and I think the problem is she's using big fonts. I made a screenshot and I was going to send it to her, but she's away now, so here it goes:

Hm, its definitely a display setting because her friend's machine isn't affected (I assume yours wasn't either) so you could very likely be right.  I was sure that applying a default windows theme would put settings like the one you point out back to default, but it looks like I was wrong.  Another thing that may be affecting it is cleartype, if that is available and has been turned on.
