Hd space by John Anderton on 01-21-2005 at 07:03 PM

Well heres a prob. I have a 40 gb hd. I have made it into 4 partitions.
C: -> Windows Xp 10 gb
D: -> My stuff (softwares n all) 10 Gb
E: -> Games 10 gb
F: -> Songs and movies 10gb

So this is how i ditributed it while formatting my hd a few months back. Now after i finished i noticed c: gave me on 7.43 gb cause rest was for whatever temp thingy it is. So i thought 7 gb is enough for only windows and my programs. A few months down the line and now i have one 826 mb left :S
Rest of the drives have used only 3 - 5 gb so have a lot of space but c doesnt.
I installed xp+sp 1+sp 2. So what should i do know ??
Can i transfer space form other drives to c safely ??? (Not reliable if possible rite?) Then should i sit and uninstal progs like office xp and stuff and bring em to another drive ? (too much time) Or format whole thing (no way im not going to do some thing so labourous. rather do opt no 2 :D)
R there any files i can delete. I have nothing other that program files, windows folder, documents n settings, system restore folder and some other found.01 .... so on till found.20
Here r their sizes.

  • Documents and Settings; Size=1.13gb , Size on disc=1.20gb
  • Program files; Size=1.12gb , Size on disc=1.14gb
  • WINDOWS; Size=3.16gb , Size on disc=3.19gb
  • FOUND.01 To FOUND.20; Size=42.0mb , Size on disc=42.0mb
  • System Volume Information; Size=923mb , Size on disc=926mb
  • Other files; Size=125mb , Size on disc=125mb
    These r files like boot.ini etc which cant be deleted. Total 9 files. But there is one file called hiberfil.sys which is 125mb itself cause all others are negligible 1 - 2 kb.
Well i thought of deletind the found.* folders but thought id ask. And why is teh documents and settings folder so big. Is it that big in alll yr pcs ?? I have 3 accounts. I use the most space with 10 mb wallpapers. total my docs r 23 mb. For my parents account's it is 10 and 5 mb.
Please help.

use a program like Partition Magic to resize the partitions, making drives D, E and F say 8GB each and drive C 16GB

But if possible, i would recommend backing up all your data first, just in case, as messing around with the partiions can be dangerous

Move my documents elsewhere.

It tends to be a large folder on your C:

Just right click the my documents menu and follow the options it gives you there!
