Security tab in windows xp by zaidgs on 01-22-2005 at 12:55 AM

as much as i know, the security tab (where u can set folder permissions) is only available for ntfs drives amd UNDER SAFE MODE, at least thats how i am doing it.
yet i have seen few computers running under normal mode, yet have the security tab available in the folder properties.
does anyone know how can i set up my windows xp so that the security tab will be also available under normal mode, cuz its frustrating when u have to restart into safe mode to change some permissions.

Only one more thing to add: (as long as I know) you can't uncheck "Use Simple File Sharing" in Windows XP Home, because there's no such checkbox; at least in normal mode.

Correct. To edit permissions in XP Home, you have to either reboot in safe mode, or do what I do, use the CACLS command (Google it).

Really?

"Full-text Search Matches returned 0 results for cacls." :dodgy:

Was it actually online, in the knowledge base? :p

why would it return results of Calcs or whatever its called in a Microsoft envirement? , surely they'd try pointing the user into using  a Microsoft Product instead of some1 elses

cacls comes with my Windows XP Pro; (it's a console command) so I think it comes with Home too.
it's in %windir%\SYSTEM32\cacls.exe
