msnmsgr.exe run as msnmsgr_org.exe by VicSmurf on 01-25-2005 at 02:16 PM

Hello i have a question,

I run my messenger under a nother name: msnmsgr_org.exe. I use a compiled script (autoit) to start up msnmsgr_org.exe. The name of the autoit executable is (offcourse) msnmsgr.exe.

Now the problem is that when i install Messenger Plus! it always says "Wrong version you need at lease 4.6 of MSN Messenger" sounds ok because it looks at msnmsgr.exe instead of msnmsgr_org.exe.

Is there away to let Messenger Plus! to look at the msnmsgr_org.exe instead of the msnmsgr.exe? Or is this name hardcoded?

Please help :)

I don't think so, because it will be solid to do without patchou adding a feature such as "choose the filename for msn messenger" and that will create problems and may cause certain errors....

Plugins maybe? But I don't know about limitations...

Maybe it could be a command line option like:

MsgPlus /msnmsgr_org.exe /WinStart orso...

Maybe i have to find a way to give my messenger the default name ;)

can i ask why you run messenger under the name "msnmsgr_org.exe" ???

the easest thing to do to make plus! work would just be to run messenger as normal "msnmsgr.exe"

so when things runs msnmsgr.exe it runs an autoit script and loads stuff then loads the normal msnmsgr named msnmsgr_org.exe

hmm i thought this was in plus is you used a different name but the process called msnmsgr.exe might trick plus and it wont detect the other messenger

Because I start MSN Messenger under another user account with fever rights (no admin rights). In that way it's not possible to open/install programs i receive from msn messenger. It's not for me but more for my dad he srews everything up all the time :)

What my program does is (for example) : BrowseSafe.exe "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr_org.exe".

This line of code is part of my AutoIt script (compiled as exe) named: msnmsgr.exe

Thats why ;)

right i understand now
if all you want to do it for is to run other programs and then messenger from one shortcut you may want to take a look at AppLoader by Lopardo.

Well I only wanted to know if it is possible and not if it is a hassle or not ;) I love the hassle :P

There a lot of users that exept everything thye see on screen. It's not for me but for more "inexperienced" users :) I have some friends an collegues with that kind of problem so if i make it ones..they can install it and it is a little saver

Bad thought but you could Password protect the Plus! preferences from your Dad and Auto Decline any file transfers for his account HAHAHA!!!

Messenger Plus! uses the filename of Messenger as it appears in the registry. I guess you could bypass this version problem by setting the same version string in the resources of your software as it appears in Messenger :).

Note: I do not support that kind of stuff ;)
