Then the solution should be simple. tart > Help and Support > Undo changes to my computer with System Restore...follow the whole thing through, but pick a date before the problem started

No do not do this....

While you have your iPod connected to your PC do the following.

Toggle the Hold Switch On and Off
Hold Down the Menu and Select buttons until you see an Apple logo appear then let go. Wait for your iPod to boot to the main menu and it should say Do Not Disconnect.

On a side note Anibus: iPods are not like most devices and rarely a System Restore will fix the problem, but potentially could make it worse. The current situation with the iPod is that the Software is not responding to any commands sent from the PC thus the PC cannot lock it that is why it only says charging. Once the iPod is reset it will reset the software and respond to commands from the PC

Like I said before, Reset the iPod and if you have all the songs on your PC run your iPod Updater restore it and that should fix it.

If your iPod constantly does this it might be a problem with the USB connector on the iPod or the USB cable itself. Try another USB cable from another iPod to see if that works.
