How do you set up msn so instead of downloading from their server when being sent a file you get it directly from your contact? Thanks for any help in advance. :) BTW : I am using msn 7.0 and I am using a router to connect to the internet.

Actually when something is blocking the file transfer (eg firewall) the connection is via the server

Open ports 1863 on your router? I think those are the ports.

I know which ports they are now looking at the msn faq but I don't know how to open them. :^)

If you are using WinXP SP2, go to Control Panel, Windows Firewall, Exceptions, Add Port,

If you're using a router's address and look there for NAT setup or something to do with opening ports, its not exactly hard from there on.

edit: open DOS prompt and type in 'ipconfig'

defualt gateway should be the router address, go to that in IE

I just use Norton's firewall and that solved all my problems :) Windows firewall didnt really work much for me. I recommend nortan antivirus 2005. Works really good havent had a virus since i started using it.

Setup your router using TCP/IP settings you will have to go into your router and find out the default gateways and stuff like that tho
