RE: DVD Region question by Millenium_edition on 01-29-2005 at 09:44 PM

Is it by any chance a recorded DVD (writeable)?

RE: DVD Region question by Purity on 01-29-2005 at 09:44 PM

Because it has a different DVD region format.

RE: DVD Region question by Kryptonate on 01-29-2005 at 09:53 PM

Indeed, the world is divided into regions for dvd, let's make everything easier is what they probably thought 8-).
0 = no region coding
1 = United States of America, Canada
2 = Europe, including France, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Arabia, Japan and South Africa
3 = Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Borneo and Indonesia
4 = Australia and New Zealand, Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America
5 = India, Africa, Russia and former USSR countries
6 = Peoples Republic of China
7 = Unused
8 = Airlines/Cruise Ships
9 = Expansion (often used as region free)

It's sais it's 9  Is there a way to change it to 1?

RE: DVD Region question by Ezra on 01-29-2005 at 11:09 PM

u can use dvd shrink or something

EDIT: That changes the dvd's region code, not the dvd players :-P

RE: DVD Region question by The_Thief on 01-30-2005 at 02:37 AM

PAL and NTSC are totally different systems.  You'll have problems if you want to play a PAL DVD on an NTSC system.

I read somewhere that any burnt DVD can be played on any DVD player
RE: DVD Region question by The_Thief on 01-30-2005 at 02:44 AM

Ok.  Is there a way to alter that or make it compatible?

Nothing illegal about ripping and burning a DVD someone else made....That might be what he wants to do *-)

If he so chooses to use that knowledge to do something...less legal.....then that's his choice *-)

To back up the DVD in full is not illegal, but to modify it (e.g. changing region codes) is.
RE: DVD Region question by The_Thief on 01-30-2005 at 03:12 AM

But I'm not reselling it It's being used at my house and only at my house

I didn't say you were, but it's still illegal to modify it in any way.

It's legal to back-up your DVDs and games in full for your own use as long as you keep them in tact (un-modified).

Modifying it in ANY way is illegal whether you're keeping it, re-selling it or giving it away.
RE: DVD Region question by The_Thief on 01-30-2005 at 03:25 AM

It's for my own use.  But if I don't want to modifiy it i can use Dvd shrink and dvd decrypter right?

-_-

That's what I've just been telling you. Using ANY program such as DVD shrink to modify a retail DVD in ANY way, EVEN YOUR OWN, EVEN IF IT'S FOR YOUR OWN USE, you are breaking the law.
RE: DVD Region question by The_Thief on 01-30-2005 at 03:32 AM
