Maybe he's doing lots of high quality video editing. Or he's trying to remake all the scenes from LOTR.

twisting my words ;)

For a standard desktop / home user - there is most likely no need to such a large amount of storage. I could understand it if was in a corporate environment.

HDD's use low power. A 600W power supply should be able to handle that - I imagine two would be better tho :P

According to the specs I posted, he has 1 x Antec True Power 550W. But.. he has no (space for) cd-rom drives, so that saves some power :p. And he has a crappy graphics card :p

Doubt that a 600W would do the trick.

i seriouly doubt you have a 3.3 gb disc in your computer. its probably a partition they use to backup your stuff. if i bought one i'd delete it :P.

You have an 80gb drive with a 3.3GB Recovery Partition, this would be why you had to make your own Recovery cds. You simply tap F10 to load into a full system recovery. Not Dodgy but half smart half stupid.
RE: You know what? Let's put 28 hdd's in a pc! by Titty on 02-02-2005 at 06:46 AM

If I had that many hdds, I wouldn't remember where I put my files later.

RE: You know what? Let's put 28 hdd's in a pc! by lizard.boy on 02-02-2005 at 07:06 PM

the proper way to do it would be like yoshi's 2 tb server and have them raided so that there is 1 or 2 drives volumes.

C'mon.... you don't have to know Swedish to understand that
  • Chassi = Case
  • Moderkort = Motherboard
  • Minne = Memory
  • Graffekort = Graphics Card
  • Kontrollerkort = Contoller Card
  • Nätagg = Power Supply

And I guess that

means something like

Controller card: 2 x Silicon Image ATA-Controllers (4 hdd slots per card = 8 hdd slots)
2 x Highpoint Rocketraid 454 (8 hdd slots per card = 16 hdd slots)
(alltoghether that gives 28 hdd slots on the motherboard)

RE: You know what? Let's put 28 hdd's in a pc! by Chris.1 on 02-03-2005 at 11:05 AM

As someone mentioned above - you would simply RAID them into 1 or 2 very large volumes, therefore only seeing two or so drives.

RE: You know what? Let's put 28 hdd's in a pc! by lizard.boy on 02-03-2005 at 07:16 PM

heh i said that would be the smartest way to do it. he simply has 20+ drives under my computer.

the only way to get that many drives onto a production motherboard is to use ide controller cards.
(or s-ata or SCSI depending on the driver type.)
