Sorry if this has come up before, no doubt it has.

I opted to install Plus! without the sponsor program but it still appears on my computer.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but the same thing happens.

Now the only thing that I can suggest is that other users on the same computer have installed it in their own area not realising that there is an option to install without the sponsor and that this has led to it being installed on my area too.

How can I permanently get rid of it?

Can't help but after I installed without sponsor, two icons are on my desktop, Casino and Poker - are tehse anything to do with plus?

RE: Sponsor by Plik on 02-08-2005 at 04:08 PM

Read How to uninstall ad-ware/sponsor for instructions on removal.
Also make sure you have internet explorer fully closed when you uninstall other wise the toolbar cant be removed.

kieranissafe & sprinkles... if the sponsor is still on there, PM me, I'll give you a link to the uninstaller.  Its very simple and fast.

RE: Sponsor by kierant on 02-08-2005 at 04:18 PM

Thanks but I have already downloaded an uninstaller from the sponsor's website, but everytime my computer is turned off and then back on the sponsor comes back so my problem is how to keep it off permanently.

Make sure when you run the uninstaller, that way it can completely remove the sponsor.

hmm, can you please stop flaming at patchou, he needs to earn an income, and its not as bad as you make it out to be.

Simply go to add/remove programs via. control panel, and uninstall messenger plus! make sure MSN Messenger and Microsoft Internet Explorer are fully closed down, otherwise, it will not uninstall...

after this, you can install Messenger Plus! without the sponsor.

RE: Sponsor by _Humphreys on 02-10-2005 at 04:27 PM

Hey fedup you have installed the optional tool bar that is included with msg plus! please note this is adware and is easily removed. Please see http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=21598 for details of how to uninstall it.

RE: Sponsor by Patchou on 02-10-2005 at 07:03 PM

If the sponsor's setp was damaged by another program (like an spyware removal program), I suggest you disable your protection software, reinsstall Plus! with thesponsor and uninstall it again, it should take care of everything.

RE: Sponsor by kierant on 02-22-2005 at 10:40 AM

I'm sorry to keep going on about this, but I have tried everything that has been suggested here (i.e, reinstalling and then uninstalling; disabling spyware software etc) yet everytime I log off my area and back on again the sponsor bars reappear.

This is the same for all five user areas on this computer and it's becoming a bit annoying.

*edit*: Also, I have completely uninstalled Messenger Plus! for the time being and the sponsor is still there, even after following those procedures suggested.

RE: Sponsor by Plik on 02-22-2005 at 11:46 AM

Could it be anouther program?
Could you post screenshots of what it looks like?

RE: Sponsor by Mike on 02-22-2005 at 01:15 PM

Try uninstalling Messenger Plus! from safe mode.
To do this:
1) Reboot your computer
2) Before the screen with the windows scrollbar appears, press F8
3) Select safe mode

Then uninstall Messenger Plus! from there...

Thats the only thing I can suggest... :-/

Here's a printscreen after I have rebooted my computer and started Internet Explorer.

Do everything you have been told before, but as Mike2 said, in Safe Mode.

Which Messenger Plus! version are you using? Have you tried with the lastest beta (3.40.0112)?

RE: Sponsor by kierant on 02-22-2005 at 06:23 PM

Yep I'm using the latest 3.40.0112 version of Plus!

I tried starting in safe mode by pressing F8 but the only option it offered me was 'What operating system would you like to run?' or something along those lines.

Is there a different way of starting in safe mode?

*Edit*: I got it to run in safe mode so ignore the part above.

However, I went through all of the procedurs and still the sponsor program is still there when I reboot.

How annoying.

One last thing to check...
Then I cannot think of anything else... :(

Are you sure that all the processes named "iexplore.exe" are closed?

Right click on the system clock and click "Task Manager" (same as Ctrl + Alt + Del)
Click on the processes tab.
Are all the processes named "iexplore.exe" closed?
If not, click them and click "End Process"
Then uninstall MsgPlus!

Well if none of this works then i suggest just using some ant-virus/adware/spyware software. As Messenger Plus! is currently uninstalled, scan your computer and delete all the threats. If you don't have anti-virus/adware/spyware software then i recommend downloading free ones such as Lavasoft Ad-Aware Free Download, Microsoft Antispyware Download Page or other free trial antivirus software like norton, fsecue etc.
Hope this helps:)

There is a reason why we say not to use anti-adware software to uninstall the sponsor. The reason is because it'll damage the sponsor's files and it'll be harder to uninstall it.

kieranissafe, have you tried using this uninstaller?
RE: Sponsor by ProblemWv Authority on 02-22-2005 at 09:38 PM

ye sorry, i thought of that but since nothing else has managed to work i thought I'd suggest it.:^)

Strange how when he uninstalls it it comes back when he restarts his PC*-):S

RE: Sponsor by Caboose on 02-22-2005 at 10:16 PM

Hhhmmm... did you look at your startup to see if it's automatically installing itself? If you don't know how to check:

- Click Start, then click Run
- Type in 'msconfig' (without quotes)
- In the new window, click the Startup tab
- Check the programs that are starting up, and if any look suspicious, uncheck them, then click OK.

I would suggest uninstalling it first though, then running msconfig.

If that doesn't work, then... well, I dunno :S

RE: Sponsor by kierant on 02-23-2005 at 04:19 PM

I have run msconfig and it is not starting during startup (anyhow, the sponsor not only reappears after uninstallation when the computer is switched on, but also when it has been uninstalled and I log off my area and then log back in to my area).

I also clicked on the link for Messenger Plus! Support and that did not work.

The uninstaller link I already have already downloaded a while ago and that doesn't work.

Finally, I double checked that all i.explorers were closed in the task manager and still it reappears.

Thanks for your help anyway guys.
