What are the registry entries that remove Messenger Plus? by simple simon on 02-09-2005 at 03:39 AM

Does the maker of this software provide the registry entries that will remove this software?

I tried to remove it following the instructions ("Go in Add/Remove Programs and double click on "Messenger Plus!" (or click on Remove)") but that failed as it does not show up in add/remove.

I have no idea how this software got onto my computer, so I can't follow the instructions on removing it by reinstalling whatever installed it in the first place.

Just tell me what registry entries to remove.  I've spent two nights on this already and just need the answer.

When Messenger Plus! is installed properly on a system, it either appears in Add/Remove Programs, or, if it was installed in a non-administrator account, an Uninstall icon is added in the start menu. If you don't have either of those, the installation was damanged. Just reinstall it and it will recreate the proper entries. You can find the setup program at www.msgplus.net.

If I "reinstall" it, will it also add other programs I'll have to chase down? Or is there a button I can hit to keep that from happening?

I see all this stuff about a sponsor program.  What is a sponsor program?

the sponsor program installs 2 searchbars in internet explorer, they can be quite useful at times, but for some reason many people don't like them so chose not to install the sponsor

The sponsor program is just adware. However, if you refuse it during installation, it will not be installed so you don't have to worry about it.

If the icon is not in the add remove programs or is not in the Start Menu you can try to run the uninstaller this way.

Start > Run > "C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3\MsgPlus.exe" /Uninstall

This is the default location of Messenger Plus! 3. Please change it accordingly to the path it was installed to.

Note: Keep the quotation marks around the path

You have got to be kidding me. This was just one of about 150 adware/spyware/parasites that got loaded when one of my little kids clicked on something one evening.  Ground my computer's speed to a near halt. Quite helpful?  Have you checked your computer lately?

What he meant was that the sponsor's search bar is not much different from other search bars like MSN or Google. The main purpose is always the same: doa search on the net. Anyway, I guess you've now successfully uninstalled Messenger Plus! and its sponsor, I'm glad we could assist you.
