Don't encourage patching! Especially patching a leaked version! I know mess.be is commenting on it, but we have a need to not have any bad names with legal things (especially with the people who want Plus to fail)
RE: A-Patch v0.90 BETA for MSN Messenger v7.0.0604 by _Humphreys on 02-13-2005 at 05:01 PM

I don't think it's a patch Anubis otherwsie someone would of said summit by now he's been tweaking it for ages.

I even downloaded it (for educational reasons only) and looked at it and it patches the main executable...And if it isn't a patch how come it doesn't show any signs of being able to hook into Messenger?

doing the act is illegal, reverse engineering is illegal, promoting the patch is not.

MSN themselves discourage promotion of this...and since Patchou has recently been trying to please MSN by removing the ads and things, I don't think we need a reputation of being people who encourage it...really I don't like us encouraging illegal acts, despite the gain...

Says the guy who mentions p2p's when people need programs. 8-) Wether it's legal or illegal it's still good work. :)

What? I know we're going off-topic...but P2P's are legal for downloading OpenSource and freeware. I have never commented on using them for illegal purposes on this forum...I know it's illegal, but yes it is good work, I don't mean not to say that, after looking at it some people will be glad.
All we can do now is wait for a member of staff to comment, after all it is in breach of the forum rules...

If messenger isn't running, just click ok - it will proceed to patch..

If you receive the runtime error on the last screen, where it says "Patch Done." - then it would have patched messenger successfully..

Also, were you using version 0.90 or 0.91 of the patch?

Please give specifics.
RE: A-Patch v0.90 BETA for MSN Messenger v7.0.0604 by mad_onion on 02-14-2005 at 10:39 AM

oh thanks im so thick i got it working sorry my fault. it is very useful keep up the good work.

oh i just thought of a nice feature that i would use is it possible to have an option to remove the my games bit on the games list please. that would be really great.
RE: A-Patch v0.90 BETA for MSN Messenger v7.0.0604 by Ahmad on 02-14-2005 at 03:17 PM

new version 0.93 no runtime 70 or 75 errors..... if it doesnt work for you - just use 0.91 and ignore the runtime 70 or 75 errors......

that's a good idea, i'll add it in the next major version (Y) - when? soon :)

RE: *update* A-Patch v0.93 BETA for MSN Messenger v7.0.0604 by CookieRevised on 02-14-2005 at 08:21 PM

Ahmz_055, do you have a license to use darkzip.dll??? Also, there are far better and much much much smaller (AND FREE) zip DLL's you can use...

Also, instead of attaching a full blown reshack.exe to your patch, make your own resource-editor. It isn't that difficult. In fact, in VB (with some API's from windows) it is pretty easy to alter string-based resources from another application...

RE: *update* A-Patch v0.93 BETA for MSN Messenger v7.0.0604 by mad_onion on 02-14-2005 at 08:23 PM

im sure he doesnt but no one is going to stop him. also do you have alicense for every piece of music you own?

well then sorry but you are the expection. most dont and when anyone says anything about music you dont go "do you have a license to use that music?"

If he hasn't an license, then the DLL will even fail to work after 30 days.... and don't go off topic about music-piracy...

(and like I said, that DLL isn't exactly a good piece of library, there are many more, free, much smaller and easier to work with (un)zip DLL libraries available. So all in all I actually hope he didn't payed a license for it or he has wasted his money. But I fear the worse though => VALUE "Comments", "Release Version")

RE: *update* A-Patch v0.93 BETA for MSN Messenger v7.0.0604 by Ahmad on 02-15-2005 at 06:35 AM

I tried searching for free unzip dll's but i couldnt find any - any pointers would be appreciated :)

ResHacker.. I only use it for ONE feature in the patch, it's not for editing string values (that's done with code) - but for editing a MENU - so any pointers there would be appreciated too.

Btw, new mirrors are up at the official site.

Search on the big VB sites like http://www.codeguru.com/vb/ , http://www.example-code.com/vb/ , http://www.vb-helper.com/ , http://www.vbaccelerator.com/ , http://www.vbusers.com/ , http://www.vbcity.com/ , http://sourceforge.net/ , etc.... or directly the sites like http://www.info-zip.org/ , http://www.zlib.net/ , etc... you'll find tons of examples and more links.... (and even the opensource real source codes and algorithms used by programs like pkzip, winzip, so if you up to it, you can even write your own (un)zipper from scratch see http://datacompression.info/Papers.shtml , ftp://ftp.uu.net/pub/archiving/zip/doc/  )

eg: search in google for
"vb unzip"
"vbaccelerator zip"
"basic zip"
"InfoZip"
etc...
search on the big VB sites for:
"unzip"
"dezip"
"zip.dll"
etc...
etc...

You'll find so much you'll be busy digging thru all the code for a few days (and discovering that some wrapping projects are total crap/bloated/etc... (like ChilkatZip, which is a wrapper of a wrapper of a dll or something of that sort) and that others are extremely efficient. You'll discover that there are many project which wrap around a dll and other which will use ocx's. Some are very small, others are bloated and big). In short, too much to list here all...

Only for 1 function? That's even worse then :p Anyways, if you know how to manipulate string resources, then you also know how to manipulate other resources as it is essentially the same, only the resource structure is a bit different of course.

but, editing string values (that's done with code) <= do you mean by 1) handling the resource structers (reading the compiled structures in / decompiling / editing / compiling / writing back) or by 2) patching some values inside the exe/dll ???

with 1) you can inster/delete/etc whataver you want (=good, decent way)
with 2) if you want to edit a string which is 100 bytes long, you can't make it 50 bytes or 150 bytes, your bound to the 100 bytes. (= not handling resources at all, you're just patching some bytes. This method isn't adviceable)

I ask this, because if it is method 1, you can handle any standard resourcetype you want, including menu's, dialogs, stringtables, whatever. It all is the same...

But I think you do method 2, which is all in all nothing more then patching some bytes and has very little to do with resource handling themselfs. In this case you might want to search (again) on those big VB archives, there are tons of examples of how to read and manipulate resources. Also readup on Windows API's, as these will be needed for this. And once you know what a compiled resource is and how it is structured, you can do whatever you want with it without reverting to 3rd party full blown applications which you need to hide inside your application so it looks like your application is doing it all.

It all comes down to research and learning from other people's code though. And there are tons and tons of examples laying around. All to do is typing some logic searchphrases in google like "vb resources",  "vb zip", etc...

And if you come across something which you need to pay for, then dish it, it will be useless and wasted money as all this stuff is for grabs on the big vb source websites...

hope this helps ;)
RE: *update* A-Patch v0.93 BETA for MSN Messenger v7.0.0604 by mad_onion on 02-15-2005 at 10:05 PM

how long do you think it will be until the new version is released with the my games remover bit?

RE: *update* A-Patch v0.93 BETA for MSN Messenger v7.0.0604 by _Humphreys on 02-17-2005 at 03:06 PM

I just installed the A-Patch and it won't let my msn main window load up. Msn appears in the taskbar but when I double click it it doesn't load the main window. Can you help as I really want to use the Patch.

RE: *update* A-Patch v0.93 BETA for MSN Messenger v7.0.0604 by Ahmad on 02-17-2005 at 03:49 PM

Did you use the latest version 0.93?

If so, repair/re-install Messenger, then run the patch again - making sure Messenger isn't running.

If you still have trouble, trying doing the Contact List first, then run the patch again, and do the Instant Message window...then again the Misc section, run Messenger in between each one to make sure it's working properly before applying the next section.

RE: [updated 21/2/05] A-Patch v1.00 by giken on 02-23-2005 at 07:24 AM

does this patch add mess.be custom games feature too?
If not can you add this feature?

p.s
does idle status patch work with non english version of messenger? (if you want I can suggest where reshack needs to change values in my messenger language, italian one, so you can create automatic installer for it like english version)

Honestly, I don't know, I mean, theoretically I think it should, but the problem is it won't be in your language, it will be in english.

Edit: Custom Games Added.
RE: [updated 23/2/05] A-Patch v1.01 - Added Custom Games by giken on 02-24-2005 at 08:35 AM

Thanks a lot for custom games :)
For the idle patch:
I know, with the current patch "idle" status will be in english, if you want I can translate it for you (in my language "idle" and "away" words have more characters so the patch is a little bit different) and explain where change values in language dll so you can add another option for italian users and so one (maybe other users can help you adding patch for more languages).
Let me know, I will give you reshack values :D

Not realy though, the place to patch is still the same. (and in many other languages, people often let "idle" remean "idle")

If this is added (a translatable "idle" I mean) then it should be added for all the languages of msn messenger (which are a lot :D). Would be nice in a way though...

String number 38 and 101.
RE: [updated 23/2/05] A-Patch v1.01 - Added Custom Games by giken on 02-25-2005 at 07:13 AM

The difference is in the value location, english use 1033, italian one is 1040...
lines are the same, you're right
In the 604 build there are no problems because it's in english only, but the patch is for 405 and 6.2 versions too so value locations need to be corrected :)

RE: [updated 23/2/05] A-Patch v1.01 - Added Custom Games by CookieRevised on 02-25-2005 at 02:48 PM

A language reference in a resource is not a problem if you know how to deal with it (programatically). Also, the language DLL's of MSN Messenger always contain only 1 language (and even if they did had multiple languages, then still it wouldn't be a problem)

True, I don't have any problems changing strings. My problem is changing MENU resources without using ResHacker. I couldn't find any tutorials *-)

It also supports localizations, if you like I can translate your patch in italian for next version

A-Patch has been updated to include MSN Messenger 7.0.0732 !

I've also added a couple of new features - Remove the Send button and Remove Nudge Delay - bringing the total number of features to a whopping 32!

Check the first post for download instructions ;)

Click on the other options at top 'Instant Messanges' and the other one, and ensure nothing is ticked. Also, make sure it's a clean install

I have identified the problem mad_onion.

If you want the Get More From Messenger menu and the options to Create Dynamic Display Picture then the following two options can NOT be used together, you'll have to pick one :/

- Remove (BETA) Tags
- Mess.be Games

I'll make this problem clearer in the next version if it can not be solved. Sorry for the inconvenience.

:)

That looks like a problem with your Display Adapter or perhaps low on RAM :/

I have an 256Mb display adapter and have 1 Gigs of ram. I am sure that at least half of those memories are currently free :)
There was a blank invisible area there which is colored when I moved it out of and then inside the visible area.

That's very strange SubZero, perhaps it's the fact that MSN Messenger 7 is still in BETA :P because that definitely can't be a patch problem.

RE: [updated 22/03/05] A-Patch v1.04 - Support for MSNM 7.0.0732 by Ahmad on 03-26-2005 at 03:58 PM

The front form has been given a minor (or major?) update. It now automatically detects the installation path of MSN Messenger so that you don't have to select it every time! You also have an option to choose an alternate path.

I've also added some compatibility and important notes to the front, along with a link to the official help forum.

If you have any problems please don't hesitate to post in the help forum!

RE: [updated 27/03/05] A-Patch v1.05 - Support for MSNM 7.0.0732 by Poom on 03-27-2005 at 04:45 AM

A very good patch, I like the ability to take text out of buttons. However, I think you should add these features:
1. Multi-lines nickname
2. Swap artist and title of the song
3. Disable Winks
4. Show disable tab checkbox
5. Change the handwriting and text tab to text instead of pictures
6. Disable user is typing

1. I'm thinking of adding this feature.
2. Also working on it.
3. You can disable winks from playing automatically from within MSN Messenger (Tools > Options > Messages)
4. This is no longer needed anymore since they can be disabled from with MSN Messenger by default (Tools > Options > Security)
5. Working on it.
6. Good idea (Y)

Also in future could you please post these suggestions in the official forum for it helps me when all the suggestions are in one place ;)

Thanks :)

Great job there! This is amazingly fast! 7.0.0777 just came out and A-Path is out! O_ô I have to say this is better than messpatch now. BTW, why is the mess.be custom game out? Besides that, when will my requests be added? They are... (I hope you don't forget)

1. Multi-line nickname
2. Swap song and artist for now playing feature
3. change the handwriting tabs to text instead of pictures
4. Disable user is typing. (I really want this)

Your contact list can't get deleted, just by patching msn messenger. Your contact list is on the MSN server and not on your pc. How else can you use msn messenger all over the world? :)

RE: [updated 10/04/05] A-Patch v1.1 - New features by Ahmad on 04-10-2005 at 09:00 AM

I've added a few new features -- Remove PSM Bar, Remove Contacts PSM, Remove My DP Container -- and re-added Mess.be Custom Games.

Another thing, I've changed the download to a ZIP file and I've also cut down the filesize to 78kb, as opposed to 590kb

Check the first post for more info and the download.

Edit: POOM I have not forgotton your suggestions.

I am Muslim and I like to give people the opportunity to learn more about Islaam, if they so choose to.

I will not be removing the "ads", there is nothing wrong with them.

yup.. but i guess its just ironic that i installed the patch, my contact list got deleted, then i did system restore, and it got un-deleted?
to many "just so happends" for me...

RE: [updated 10/04/05] A-Patch v1.1 - New features by DarKnight on 04-11-2005 at 03:01 AM

Excellent patch.

Do you think you could add the ability the mess patch has, "Boost Personal Messages To 500 Characters"?

One thing I like in this more than the mess patch is how when you disable the, "search" button in the convo window it will then allow you to resize the text area to a smaller size.

I have it so the (M)+ bar fits in just so. :)

In the mess patch it has space above and below the, "send" button that you can't resize away. ( Yes, I'm very picky )

Anyway, great patch, and keep up the great work on future versions. :)

Edited for common typos.

Edit 2: Also I noticed this in other patches too. It's not big though. If you've made it so when you click on your display image in the contact list, you'll notice when you hover over it, it'll say, "View my contact card"

I know that can be changed easily by hand. Just felt like pointing it out, because it's kinda silly to have it say one thing, and do another. :P

One suggestion.. Can you add a emo typing option in the patch ??  For msn 6.2 there was a emo typing patch but for 7.0 there isn't :(

I think A-Patch is the best patch, but perhaps you would consider messpatch's new functions? I like the always on top thing. Perhaps you could try to add the add always on top button into A-patch too. Here are the features of messpatch that A-patch doesn't have yet.
- Add always on top button
- Disable Space in contact card
- Disable Song Link
- Remove Billing Info
- Swap artist and song
- Enable multi-line nickname

RE: [updated 30/04/05] A-Patch v1.1.4 - Support for 7.0.0813 by giken on 04-30-2005 at 07:29 PM

I'd like multi-language support for idle patch and a-patch menus too...
I pm'ed several infos to ahmad to include my native language support (italian) but he didn't add them to patch, I don't know why :(

Also please add latest version of messengeramp plugin for winamp support in the personal message, it will make title / artist swap possible in winamp too :)

P.S.
Are there any a-patch features that are not available in mess.be patch?

I've included the Always On Top button in the latest release (1.1.5).

Ahmad, everytime I want to check who's online in my contact list I double click the MSN icon in the system tray, open the MSN window, check status of my contacts and close it. Do you think you could add a feature to your patch that will enable to do this by just hovering the mouse arrow on top of the system tray's MSN icon displaying a popup window listing the contacts that are online?
This would be very helpful as it would save all mouse clicks needed to check this.

No, Ahmad's patch is a... patch, not a plugin or addon which adds additional code and functionality to msn messenger. Everything these patches do already exists in msn messenger in one way or the other, they simply move things around or disabled them...

---

Furthermore, hoovering over the tray icon will take you more time then simply double cliking on the icon. (An hoover action will only kick in after a certain amount of time!). And if many contacts are online (mind you that such things will not be made especially for you, but that other people should be able to use it also) you still need to scroll a list. All in all, this list will be nothing more than: ... your contactlist itself. So, in other words, I'm afraid this is even rather useless as a plugin or addon...

1) I think this feature would be extremely useful, it would save all mouse clicks and a lot of time, and hence very convenient.
2) The convenience of this feature would be for ALL of us users of MSN, not JUST for me.
3) Conclusion: I posted this suggestion for the enjoyment of all of us, not just for my use.

1) So what if you're saving one double click? One double click isn't much, is it? You made it sound like it is a big hassle to open your contactlist, well it isn't... And doing this by hoovering will not save you any speed, in fact it will be slower. Also, the mouse is there to be used....
2 & 3) That is not what I meant with that comment at all. If such a plugin was to be made, it must be made to handle a contaclist with 300 online contacts, because that IS possible. This means a HUGE inconvenient list or a scrollable list. This also means that it has to be displayed in a scrollable window. In other words, you will have again a window open AKA contactlist... And I also said "useable for everybody" because than you couldn't say: "but I only have 5 contacts on my list so that can be nicely listed in a popup menu" or something...

Furthermore you already have lots of options to see if certain contacts are online (eg: desktop contacts, or sorting by online/offline, etc...)

btw, there once was a whole big thread a long time ago about just the same suggestion (and the same arguments and same conclussion that it would be useless).

PS: I'm not bashing you or anything, just being realistic though ;)

EDIT: I'm not going to make another post for it, so:

There is absolutely no difference...

true, but this isn't really a shortcut at all. Even if you don't believe it, it will be a longcut.

 That will take even more time (a LOT of time) then simply double clicking the tray icon...

(your method will take more then a couple of seconds to even find a contact, while double clicking the icon will take you less then a second to search for a contact)

You're making/suggesting it much much too complicated. Simply double click the icon man, it IS much shorter and convenient.
RE: [updated 01/05/05] A-Patch v1.1.5 - Added even more features! by alegator on 05-02-2005 at 01:17 AM

I'm not bashing you either, I really think it would be convenient. Many times you just want to check if a contact is online and the popup would serve that purpose. Then if you want to send him a message you could open the MSN as usual, but the "checking" process would save opening and closing the MSN window. All of the options that you mention are not good alternatives to my suggestion, they all involve much more clicks and in the case of dektop contacts even worse, invading your valuable desktop real estate, unless of course you don't use it for anything else. Yes, the mouse is there to be used, but shortcuts are always welcome to save time. That's just IMHO, otherwise I wouldn't have posted in the first place. I don't pretend that you agree with this, but I'm sure many do agree.

I'm also editing this post answering to your last one rather than posting separately (your quotes in bold italic):
"The "checking" process would not save anything. Opening your contactlist doesn't require "much more" clicks. In fact it requires 1 double click, and that's all.
Again you're missing my point. I don't mean to check your online contacts once a days for example. What about if you want to check every 5 minutes? Then double clicking so frequently becomes tedious and an autopopup with the above features becomes convenient
true, but this isn't really a shortcut at all. Even if you don't believe it, it will be a longcut.
Again, such a shortcut becomes meaningful when you have a high frequency of checking on your online contacts. Sort of similar to a stock ticker with refreshable prices versus having to manually refresh a webpage with the stock prices every 5 minutes...
And not to mention if you have MSN Polygamy with more than one client open at the same time...!

Yes, it is compatible except for the "Offline Systray Status" feature... although you received that error because you did not patch on a clean install of MSN Messenger.

Ahmad, i love A-Patch, together with Plus! it is the reason why i'm not trillian user yet. Used A-Patch to keep MSN7 nice and clean, but there is one thing i would love to see...

An option to "switch" DP's in conversation windows and then hide my own DP by default.

Let me explain: The DP of your contact is next to your conversation and that takes up a lot of useless space. You own DP at the other hand is next to your send button and doesn't take much useless space at all. But i already know how my own DP looks so i hide it most of the time... so... Let's switch the location where both DP's are displayed (my own DP next to the conversation and the contact DP next to the send button)... and because i don't like to see my own DP every time... hide my own DP (located next to the conversation) by default. See before and after screenshots :).

Don't know if it's possible, but hey... people said many things were impossible with MSN, look where we are now. At least consider it? :p

Great idea! ;) I know how to auto-hide the top DP by default.. so that's no problem. I'll look into switching it! :)

No problemos chris100 (Y) ...

I've added 5 new features and they are HOT!!!

» Add Send Button to Handwriting Tab
This means that when you remove the ugly & bulky Send button from the Instant Message window, you can add it to the Handwriting Tab and still be able to send ink messages!!

  » Remove To: Bar
Don't you already know who you're talking to? Why waste precious conversation space.. don't! Get rid of it now with A-Patch!

» Auto Hide Contact's Display Picture
Annoyed at your contact's display picture popping up everytime you open a conversation with them? Choose this option to automatically hide it upon opening the window!

  » Remove Invite Button
» Remove Web Cam Button from To: Bar

Great job Ahmad! You continue to surprise me.

Is there a way you can add the view profile in the convo menu? It was in there in MSNM6 but it's gone in MSNM7. Is it possible?

Make an option to not start up MSNM. Sometimes when you release a new version, I want to patch my MSNM with it. So I restore the backup, A-Patch opens up MSNM. I close it so I can re-patch it. It's just something small but it might be better for people with slower computers, MSNM might take longer to open up.

An option to make save your selections? And an option to wipe them from the registry?

Keep up the great work! Have you got anything else up your sleeves?

Hi Ahmad, I've posted this in another thread. You answered in that thread, but not on my questions, so I'm so "rude" that I repost i this thread, where you seem a bit more active.

I like the feature that removes the text "Messenger" next to the MSN-logo, and the one that removes the text next to the Hotmail-, My space- and MSN today-buttons from A-Patch. And I also like the feature which adds a Log off-button from MessPatch. I have tried to use both patches, but it doesn't work, no matter if I use MessPatch or A-Patch first. Can you please add the Log-off button into A-Patch? Or du you or someone else have any tips to give me the Log off-button from Messpatch when I have used A-Patch? Or the opposite way, let me remove the mentioned texts that A-Patch removes after I have used Messpatch?

There is another function in A-Patch that shows users as "Idle" instead of "Away" if they have been inactive for a certain amount of minutes. Is it possible, in the registry maybe, to change the text "Idle" to something else? After all "Idle" is the only status that appears in English in my Messenger... In MessPatch, the same function is claimed to function only for English users, so A-Patch actually is better! :P

I found a bug in the most recent version of A-patch. It removes the Billing Info Menus even if I don't choose to remove it. I even tested the opposite way to see if the menus remained if I selected to remove them, but no matter what I choose they disappear.

I don't know if the next small problem has anything to do with A-Patch, or if it is the upgrade to Messenger 7.0.0813 that is to blame, but when a contact in my contact list have enabled a self-defined status from MsgPlus it shows up like this in my contact list:

(m) Name (self-defined status) (Away)
(^ I guess you understand this symbolizes the contact list-icon)

Anyone seen that bug before?

Finally, great patch Ahmad! I first got introduced to Messenger-patches at www.mess.be, and started to use the MessPatch, but with MSN7, and all the texts next to the icons beneath the Personal Message, I prefer to use A-Patch instead. And your version of Always on top-icon also look better IMHO. If you only could add the Log off-button... :)

That's just the new way that Plus! implements Custom Statuses. (Which doesn't look as good as it used to, imo. :( )

If you want to change that yourself, you need to use a program like Resource Hacker and open up msgslang.dll in it.. navigate to String Table > 3 and edit string number 38, click compile script, then navigate to String Table > 7 and edit string number 101, compile script and save [exit messenger first] ;)

I've just installed v1.1.8 and added the Sign Out-button, which looks like this: [Image: A-Patch_SignOut.png]

Is it possible to make it in a more .NET-style? Either in v1.1.9, or by reshacking something myself?

Open msnmsgr.exe in Resource Hacker.

Navigate to PNG > 2009 > 1033 [or whatever number you have there].

Right-click it, choose Replace Resource, then click Open file with new resource...

Choose the PNG image you want to replace it, the following data should be..

Type: PNG
Name: 2009
Language: 1033 [or the number you have]

Click replace then save it :)

Thank you!

Reshacker is downloaded, and I just have to finish off a few things first that, believe it or not, is a bit more important than MSN Messenger! :o

BTW: Any maximum picture size?

And one more thing regarding the reshack of "Idle", the Norwegian word will be "Inaktiv" (yes, similar to the English "Inactive"), it won't be a problem with 7 characters instead of 4 I hope?

Ahmad, just to let you know: I've reshacked both files like you described, and it worked great! (of course it did...);)

Actually, it was quite easy too! I'm not sure if I'm ready to start messing around with just whatever string and value inside different files yet, but as long as I have descriptions it's like a walk in the park. Time will tell how long it lasts before someone comments on my Sign Out-button and wants one too!(H)

RE: [updated 15/05/05] A-Patch v1.1.9 - Added a few more options/features by Ahmad on 05-14-2005 at 08:42 PM

Latest 2 features:

  » Remove Yellow Info Bar
» Shorten Status Info in Info Bar

More info about these features can be found --> here.

I've also added the requested option of choosing whether to launch MSN Messenger after restoring backups or patching. By default it's ticked after patching, and by default it's unticked after restoring backups! :)

Is it planned to increase the number of characters in the "Boost Personal Message to 500 Characters" feature?

RE: [updated 15/05/05] A-Patch v1.1.9 - Added a few more options/features by einum on 05-15-2005 at 11:38 AM

The view profile-function is still there in the conversation window. Beneath the display picture of your contact, there is a small arrow, where you can choose among:
- view contactcard
- view profile
- size (of DP): medium / small
- hide (DP)

I'm not 100% sure if all these options are default. I have MSN 7.0.0813, MsgPlus 3.52.130, MsgDiscoveryX (BETA), StuffPlug 2.2.119 (for MsgPlus), A-Patch 1.1.8 (1.1.9 downloaded, not installed yet). I doubt any of the other MsgPlus-plugins on my system adds any of these features.

Edit: A few typos....

Not sure if this has been reported, but when using the Shorten Status Info in Info Bar feature, when someone goes offline, the bar is blank. I mean, there's no text, just the little "i" symbol on the left, and the rest is blank o.O

Think you could fix that? :)

Well, I bet you already guessed my next question: Where? :P You should have a webpage with descriptions of the language-specific texts that is changed due to A-Patch, so it is possible to manually reschack them. :)

And if you need something rare as a Norwegian translation, PM me. This is valid both for translation of the A-Patch GUI and for language-specific texts inside Messenger that is changed because of A-Patch. BTW: One of the translations of MessPatch is Swedish.

Note: Also Swedish and Danish, most of the Finnish and some Icelandic people are able to read Norwegian. So it will not only be for the few "Norsemen"! (H)
RE: [updated 15/05/05] A-Patch v1.1.9 - Added a few more options/features by Joe771 on 05-21-2005 at 08:25 PM

Would it be possible to add an option to be able to set your status to "idle", so it looks exactly like you've gone idle automatically.

Sounds like a strange idea i guess but messenger discovery does it:

quote:
Able to see "idle" and go "idle"
Being idle is hidden with MSN Messenger, but MessengerDiscovery 3 will make this status visible and usable.

http://www.messengerdiscovery.com/?p=news

Don't really want to install messenger discovery for that one feature.

Would be useful if one of my contacts starting talking to me but i didn't want to talk to them at that time (for whatever reason) I could change to idle rather than have it look like i've manually set it to away looking like i've just ignored them!

Talking about this feature, it seems to not work with the last build .813! You have indeed removed it in your last update. Differentiate "idle" from "away", does not work. I realy need it. Even the one from mess patch does not work. It has worked fine with my beta .604. Any fix in the coming days??? Thanks

Ahmad and Joe771 were not talking about that. They were talking about manually setting your own status to "idle", this is completely different (although related)....

Anyways, to come to your question: Why not do it yourself then:
Matty's reply to Is it possible or anyway of telling the real status of the contact??

please can you add winamp support for now playing future and swap title/artist trick?
thanks
I think the best plugin for that you can include is:

http://silicon.xs4all.nl/index/msgramp

It gives useful setting panel where you can change title/artist informations too :)

If you can, please add the ability to remove clickable link on now playing, it's present in mess patch and I think it's very useful (no reasons to buy song, if i'm playing it I already got it eheheh) :)
maybe you can replace the link on other contacts now playing with somethink like "automatic message asking to send that song" :)

P.S:
Is a-patch missing any other feature compared mess.be patch?

I've actually planned to put up a comparsion between these two patches, so the differences is clear to everyone, I just haven't walked that road yet... (Re-installing Messenger, trying out both patches and re-configuring and re-reschacking my Messenger back to the settings I have now doesn't feel too fun... :S) I'm pretty sure that if there are any differences, it will be pro A-Patch. RE: [updated 15/05/05] A-Patch v1.1.9 - Added a few more options/features by giken on 05-26-2005 at 11:52 AM

A few suggestions:

Can you add to "Shorten Status Info in Info Bar" the ability to reduce also the message when you open a contact window when you're invisible ""<p>It's not possible to send or receive message because your status is offline or invisible. Click here to go online"
(sorry i'm translating from italian).

Also, I can confirm a bug, after you apply a-patch it's not possible to click on yellow bar links anymore (like "Click here to go online").

Always in the same option please change
"Contact status is set to" and "contact is offline" with the name of contact, you just need to replace the word "contact" with "%1" in the msglang.dll

I think it's better :)

****Little update****
I managed a while with yellow status bar informations and I made these changes:

60 - %1 is locked.
61 - <p>Remember you are Invisible</p>
62 - %1 is %2
63 - <p>%1 is Offline.</p>

I think it's the best way to use one line only for every info message. Sorry for my english but i'm translating from italian messenger manually :)

The Shorten Status doesn't work 100% for me...

When a user has set the status to something it works fine, but if he goes offline, the yellow bar is empty! (see attached file)

I prefer to have the texts in Norwegian, and when I use ResHacker and the instructions Grue posted in the thread you linked too, I find that these lines are not in String Table > 4 > 1033, but in String Table > 4 > 1044. The text in line 63 after patching it is:
quote:
"Contact is offline?"
Note the question mark.

The weird thing is that line 62 works fine, even if it is String table > 4 > 1044, but not 63. Any suggestions?

Note: I have not checked the dll-file with ResHacker before patching, that may give me a hint....
Edit: I checked the unpatched dll-file now, and the original text is located between <p> and </p>. A text after </p> regarding a cell phone number for the contact is not shown in the yellow bar, even if it shows up in the dll-file... The specific text does not show up in any other string in the dll-file. *Patching again, and reshacking to Norwegian + adding the <p> and </p>*
Edit2: The added <p> and </p> did not do the trick....

I also tested these:
quote:

61 - <p>Remember you are Invisible</p>
62 - %1 is %2
63 - <p>%1 is Offline.</p>
61 and 62 works fine. 63 doesn't work - see above. Also 60 doesn't work for me. I recieve another text on the yellow bar than the one originally in line 60. I've searched for it with ResHacker, and found it in String Table > 5 > 1044 > 73.

Now I am confused... :S

Suggestion for the next version of A-Patch:
Enable the Always-on-top button in conversation windows without forcing the user to remove the MSN-logo. This is possible, I've tested it with MessPatch.

My popup blocker stops the popups on .tk addresses. When they are blocked, the site doesn't load. Kinda like a catch-22. So disable your popup blocker or try the link above.

Thanks for a great patch Ahmad! I was so tired of MSN messenger taking up my entire screen due to all buttons, tabs and what-not. Now I have trimmed it down to this:

www.thorning.nu/msnstripped.jpg

The last thing I need to get rid of is the tabs in the main window, the groups. You can change the order, but you can't remove them completely. Being able to do that would be awsome!

Thanks again!

Try this: Settings - Security (second from the bottom) - The computer is also used by others, so don't show my categories (bottom).

"Ad hoc"-translation from Norwegian.

Edit: From the screenshot I saw that you are Swedish, so I believe it will be something like this: Personliga innställningar - Säkerhet - Min dator blir också nyttat av andra, så inte visa mina kategorier.

This is probably all "Svorsk" / "Sworvegian", but hey, I tried! ;)

An extremely clean and simple Messenger you've got there costre!

As I see it there is only two more things to do:
- get rid of the yellow bar above your contact list, that is an problem with A-Patch installed... Becuse the yellow bar get unclickable after using A-Patch. But try this: Settings - General - Click the More info-button at the bottom section. I believe that helped me after using A-Patch.
- use ResHacker to create a more discrete SignOut-button above your contact list. Maybe make it invisible? Just a transparent PNG-image. That will make it look like there is no button there until you hover your mouse over that area.

RE: [updated 15/05/05] A-Patch v1.1.9 - Added a few more options/features by giken on 05-30-2005 at 08:49 PM

I have to confirm the yellow bar bug: after a-patch it's not possible to click on it anymore (both in contact list and in message windows).
Also some of the text in the shorter info options shows empty yellow bar without text...

btw, I don't understand the reason to make sign-out button hidden :) Maybe we can change the image icons...

Sign-out and always on top icons in the mess patch look better, maybe ahmad can use them in his patch :)

RE: [updated 15/05/05] A-Patch v1.1.9 - Added a few more options/features by einum on 05-30-2005 at 09:17 PM

In my opinion the AlwaysOnTop look better in A-Patch, but SignOut look better in MessPatch. This is possible to change by using ResHacker. Read earlier postings in this thread.

My suggestion to costre about a "hidden" SignOut-button was because he has a VERY clean Messenger (look at his screenshot: http://www.thorning.nu/msnstripped2.jpg). I didn't mean to hide the button, but create one that is transparent, so you can't see that there is a button there before you move your mouse over that area. And there is no point for others than costre to have a transparent button, unless they have stripped their Messenger as he has.

As I mentioned earlier, I have been thinking of a comparsion between A-Patch and MessPatch. Well, now I've finished it: http://home.loqal.no/~erikeinu/patch/patches.html

Feel free to comment it. (And if you like it, why not give me reputation credits for it.... ;))

I don't think there will be a surprise to anyone to reveal that A-Patch has more features than MessPatch. But I got a little surprised myself, when I saw that MessPAtch actually have quite a few features that A-Patch doesn't have!

UPDATE: I suddenly noticed a disadvantage of ResHacking the Sign Out button: the same "icon" is also used for fullscreen video conversation, so ResHacking the Sign Out button makes the fullscreen button looks silly!

Non-ResHacked:

ResHacked:

When you run the video conversation in full screen you get the opposite icon to turn full screen off:

A pity that the Sign Out uses the same icon as full screen. Any way to change this?

MORE INFO: The MessPatch adds a .NET-style SignOut-button, but the fullscreen button is not changed. Hope Ahmad is able to solve this little "mystery"...

I don't think there will be a surprise to anyone to reveal that A-Patch has more features than MessPatch. But I got a little surprised myself, when I saw that MessPAtch actually have quite a few features that A-Patch doesn't have!

Hey, nice comparison ;) 'preciate it :) Good to see A-Patch out doing messpatch (imo :P).

Thank you for the feedback! Even though most of the text was just written from the patch-software, it took a while to put it up, so I'm glad to hear that the time spent wasn't in vain. ;) My intensions is to keep this page updated when new releases are made of the patches.

There are no doubt that A-Patch have more features than MessPatch, but to make A-Patch "complete" I would love to see this fixed / included:
- Always on top button in conversation without being forced to remove MSN-logo (possible in MessPatch)
- .NET-style Sign Out button without changing the fullscreen button in video conversation (possible in MessPatch)
- remove the emoticons button from the formatting toolbar (possible in MessPatch)

I hope you don't take this feedback as criticism, because it isn't meant to be anything else than comments / suggestions. One other thing, if you have time to look at it, even though it isn't directly A-Patch related, but a ResHack question, is my reply to provolino in http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=38...d=469540#pid469540
RE: [updated 15/05/05] A-Patch v1.1.9 - Added a few more options/features by linx05 on 06-07-2005 at 11:41 AM

Disable Song Links
Removes MSN Music Search

That would be a good addition imo.

RE: [updated 15/05/05] A-Patch v1.1.9 - Added a few more options/features by einum on 06-07-2005 at 11:48 AM

I personally don't mind the song links, it's kind of a nice way to tell the difference between an ordinary PM, and what your contacts are listening to. After all you don't need to click the link, I've done it once just to see what it was.

But I understand that different users have different needs, so I don't mind if Ahmad includes this feature too.

RE: [updated 01/07/05] A-Patch v1.2.0 - Support for MSNM 7.0.0816 by Ahmad on 07-01-2005 at 07:03 AM

Improvements:

New banner made by myself.

I've fixed a couple of bugs, now the billing info and "get more from messenger" menus shouldn't be removed unless you select that option.

I've also fixed the bug that wouldn't let you click the links in the yellow info areas.

And a few other things here and there.

See first post for more info.

This Build is real! :)

Just go to http://messenger.msn.com and download it :)

Currently there's no Changelog avalaible, but it seems that there is nothing new in this Build, only some bugfixes.

Thank you! :) After all, I believe you have put a lot of more work into the patch than I did to create the webpage. ;)

You can also use this comparison to:
- add more features (look through the MessPatch column to see what features you are missing)
- improve excisting features (look through the comments column)

Feel free to link to it from your site Ahmad. And others may also link to it from Messenger-related sites if they like.

PS! I've submitted the URL to mess.be when I put my comparison online, but I haven't seen any news story about it on their page. I doubt they will include a link or a text regarding this, since it actually shows that A-Patch contains far more features than their own patch! :D

Yes, I really hope Ahmad fix those stuff. I don't really care abut emoticon button because I need it and will not remove it anyway. The thing I care the most is actually the sign out button. I think Ahmad should make the sign out button a seperate button and make it .NET style like MessPatch. As for the always on top button, I like MessPatch's one more so I use MessPatch to add the always on top button. >.> So, therer would not be much difference for me anyways. Just do something about the sign out button, Ahmad. Nice patch. Keep it up!

Multi-Language Support (experimental);
A-Patch will remember the options you selected the second time around;
Options spread out over more pages;
Compatibility with with MSN Messenger 7.5.0160.

On the down side a few of the major features of A-Patch are disabled for MSNM 7.5.0160, they will be re-enabled once I figure them out!

I noticed the latest A-Patch for 7.5. I like it, Ahmad. You changed the sign out button to the .NET passport one. ;) Great job. There are still some features I want for the 7.5 build.

1. Move "Add a contact button" to the bottom.
I like the way it was. :/ With the search bar removed, my contact list looks kinda wierd without something at the bottom.

2. Remove "Get a webcam" link under my DP in the conversation window.
Yes, I got this blue ugly link after I webcammed my friend. I do not have a webcam when I video con with him. I guess that is the reason why it is shown. I hate it, totally. I never clicked it and I guess it will link me to Logitech. Please remove it.

3. Move the webcam button to the old place.
I hate the small ugly webcam button under my friend's DP. I want it where it was. T-T Well, I noticed that the DP frame in the conversation window is thicker as well. I like it when it was thin. >.>

I don't know about 'moving' it, but I'll have an option for removing it.

Ahmad, you are doing a great job with A-Patch! (Y)

As soon as Messenger 7.5 is public BETA or final, and both A-Patch and MessPatch support this version I will rewrite my comparison, probably once again showing the world that A-Patch outnumbers MessPatch! ;)

And as I mentioned earlier, both you and others that have a Messenger-related webpage can feel free to link to my little comparison. (H)

RE: [updated 24/08/05] A-Patch v1.2.2 - Support for 7.5.0299 by einum on 08-25-2005 at 07:22 PM

There is a small glitch when you choose to move the "Add a new contact label" to the bottom of the Contact List. The top of the label and icon is cut off - see attachment. "Legg til en kontakt" is Norwegian for "Add a new contact".

PS! My comparison will probably be updated for MSN 7.5 this weekend - if I got time...

RE: [updated 27/08/05] A-Patch v1.2.3 - Now with 67 features! by einum on 08-31-2005 at 04:06 AM

My comparison is now updated for MSN Messenger 7.5.0299! -» see signature.

MessPatch has sure made improvements since the last version, there is now fewer functions that is available only in A-Patch, and there are also some new functions that are not included in A-Patch... *-) I still prefer A-Patch though! :) Ahmad, look through the comparison and try to implement the features that A-Patch doesn't have at this moment, and also use it for improvement on functions that can be made better.

I would love to see the following features from MessPatch included in A-Patch:
- Move Add Contact Button To Upper Panel (this will remove the Add Contact Bar from Contact List)
- The text next to SignOut Button in Messenger-specific language (msgslang.dll ?)
- The Always On Top Button in Conversation Windows not partly hidden behind the MSN logo
- Switch Tabs To Right Side of the Contact List
- Remove Yellow Info Bar in Contact List

And a new feature I would love to see:
- Remove text next to the buttons in the Contact Cards.
Those contacts who have both a WebCam and an MSN Mobile account have so many icons on the contact card that some of the texts is removed to make space for all the icons. Then it should be possible to force all the texts to be removed too.

When you are ready to include different languages in the installer, I could translate it into Norwegian if you want to.

Really? There's a new MSN Messenger build released? I've just downloaded MSNM new (the german version) and it's still build 0299.

Edit: Thanks Ahmad, A-Patch ist just awesome. :)

By the way: Are you looking for any new translations like german?
I've already sent you some days ago a mail through the contact form on the A-Patch website.

7.5.0303 not yet available on www.msn.no! :( Well, hopefully the Norwegian version will be available after the weekend. Haven't got any message inside Messenger telling me anything about a patch either...

Edit: Someone have splitted parts of this thread, the posts are now in Testing and Thrashing, and there you can see that Ahmad says this is a leak: http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=49...d=527336#pid527336

Edit2: It seems the thread was splitted again! The other split is in MSN/Windows Messenger: http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=49949

Edit3: I have a request for a new feature, in addition to those I posted on August 31:
Is it possible to remove the yellow infobar that shows next to the mouse cursor when you hover over your DP? See attachment.

The text says something like "Display Contact Card" (I'm using Norwegian Messenger, so I'm not sure of the English text), but since I have patched Messenger a click on my DP opens the change DP dialogue. The yellow info bar is also a littlebit "buggy" because it remains on the screen for 4-5 seconds after I have moved the mouse away from my DP. Quite annoying when the cursor just happens to pass over the DP! 8o|

A-Patch 1.2.5

- I have re-added the Mess.be custom games, they are now compatible.
- Fixed a bug in the patch window related to the X close button.
- Fixed minor issue with a Chinese character appearing in the (On the
Phone) status tag.
- Fixed "Remove 'says' Text" feature causing other strings to be out
of place.
- Fixed "Done" screen not appearing for Windows 98 users.

If I can suggest, replace myplugins.info winamp messenger plug-in with messengeramp from silicon.xs4all.nl...
it works better with internet streaming radio and configuration panel is easier (it gives the ability to ignore videos too)

I haven't had a problem with myplugins.info support for streaming radio. And it allows the user to ignore videos aswell :)
RE: [updated 09/09/05] A-Patch v1.2.5 - Re-added custom games. by giken on 09-10-2005 at 10:43 AM

it doesn't support international characters like "àèìòù" etc well, sometimes it shows them as blank or garbage (especially with radio streaming song titles)

moreover I think messengeramp configuration panel is easier to configure (less fields and variables to set plus better explainations of them)

finally I don't like in general plugins that put their configuration menu in the winamp options tree, I think it's too intrusive :(

a few questions:

- anyone can explain me (with screenshots if possible) the "change ink tabs to text" option?

- I noticed there is "remove convert tab" but the convert tab is not present in my original messenger 7.5.306 (italian), is it normal?

- I downloaded latest 1.3.0 beta and I notices a few options like show idle, remove says text, shorten info bar, etc are now for english only... in the previous 1.2.6 they work for all languages.. why?

thanks all in advance :)

Instead of having the little picture under the text box, it says "Handwriting"

See attachment (norwegian language file). "Skriv for hånd" = "Handwriting" , "Skriv inn" = normal text chat

I don't have it either (norwegian version), but I believe I have seen it in a previous version of MSN Messenger.

It's a BETA, not all functions are available/translated.

It is present only when you install additional handwriting reconition DLL's...

Read "CookieRevised's reply to Need help with 'Handwriting'"
And the original thread: "Convert Tab"

PS: provolino, that specific question was serious off topic though (as you may notice), you might create a new thread instead in the future if you have questions about handwriting. Or even better: search the forums first ;)

This thread is specifically about A-patch, nothing more...
Not even how to change this or that in MSN Messenger (for that I recommend the (seriously out of control) thread on mess.be: [Tutorial] Resource Hacking - Hex Editing).

RE: [updated 29/09/05] A-Patch v1.2.6 - Support for 7.5.0306 by einum on 10-17-2005 at 10:58 PM

OK! I had thirdparty handwriting software installed earlier, for use on the first version of Messenger with this function, but after reformat some weeks ago, I found that this wasn't necessary anymore.

Thanks!

Well, all of the 3 questions provolino asked was A-Patch related, because each one of them was directly linked to an A-Patch feature. One of them, he couldn't find use for in his version of Messenger, and asked here - in the A-Patch thread.

I downloaded it and works fine
thanks for making "idle" status translatable too :)

is there any way to make "systray status" feature working on non-english versions too?

RE: [updated 29/09/05] A-Patch v1.2.6 - Support for 7.5.0306 by rix on 10-19-2005 at 01:44 PM

The format of A-Patch language file has been changed and that's not good at all, only trouble for translators. In future I'd like to see a private (or public) changelog of translation, which would make our lives much easier. At the moment im working on 1.3.0 beta language file. Sorry for being so late.

The new way of storing the translated texts is far more efficient and far more easier to maintain. In fact it works just the same as with MSN Messenger and thousands of other programs. After all, they are simple text resources now. Text resources are especially meant for things like translating...

However, you can still translate in the old way and send the text file to Ahmad, he then can convert it to a resource (if that is ok with Ahmad, but I'm almost certain it is)...
RE: [updated 29/09/05] A-Patch v1.2.6 - Support for 7.5.0306 by Ahmad on 10-19-2005 at 03:42 PM

The language file I sent to be translated was not in a different format. You can use the same language file you have now and just add the extra strings if you like.

The other translators seemed to do it in quick time.

RE: [updated 29/09/05] A-Patch v1.2.6 - Support for 7.5.0306 by giken on 10-20-2005 at 12:04 AM

A few suggestions:

- Please can you make "Send tab" (the send tab you can add using the option in page 6) translatable as Idle?

- I tried last beta and enabled "remove says text" but it still gives the same bug of old onrd... now everytime I write something in a chat windows my name is: "is not possible to create a group. Try later." etc etc

- s it possible to make offline systray status available for non english messenger user?

really thanks :)

Hi, Ahmad. I have a suggestion of a new feature, move send (&search) button back to where it was in 7.5. It maybe hard to explain, so I made a diagram to explain instead. I really hope that it is soon implemented. Also, when will the new version of A-patch for WLM be available with more features enabled again? I can't wait! >.<

Why not suggest this to the beta team of WLM instead? It is now the time to report such suggestions since it is in fully development.
The reason for the suggestions seems very grounded to me as they force people to make there window even larger with this current layout.

Great iD! :D
I liked the buttons where they were in 7.5, why did they had to move them? Give them your opinion and hope they change their minds. :)
And if they won't... it will definatly included in my MSN Messenger 8.0 skin I'm planning when they release WLM for public. For the people who hate the new layout. ;)

I did and I havn't gotten any reply because I am not a butterfly. That's why I am asking Ahmad. I already gave a lot of bug report and suggestions through the contact form. Too bad I am not a butterfly. :'(

PS. I didn't use this diagram though, but words only, because this diagram has no search button.
