Upgrade question Msn Messenger 6.1 by risk_reversal on 02-14-2005 at 11:04 PM

I wonder if someone can help me to be clear on the following please.

I have MSN Messenger v6.1.0211 installed and of course I have been getting the upgrade message recently. Apparently need to have at least v6.2.0205....

What is the latest non beta version that can be downloaded, is it this 6.2.0205 version.  I did downloaded v6.2 from the msn site but it does not list the version, all it say is 'File Version 4.71.1015.0' on the exe.
I did find a site that had the version history but can't seem to locate it. Would anyone know of one.

Also is it necessary to upgrade my current version or is there a patch that can be applied to it to make it safe and stop these pop up reminders at sign in. I kinda like the fact that there does not seem to be any adware present on v6.1.0211 whereas some threads I have read talk about v6.2 containing this [censored].

Apologies for anything that I may have said that is silly.

Many thanks for your help

You need to upgrade to the lastest 6.2 version (6.2.0205). The real MSN Messenger version can only be found in Help => About menu. The file version is the Windows Installer version (afaik).

MSN Messenger has no adware, only a banner on the bottom of the contact list.

note: You should have upgraded a long time ago as 6.1.0211 contained also a lot more security bugs then the recent one....

From the main site, as with any other msn messenger version in the past. => http://messenger.msn.com/

Also: never download a msn messenger version (or any other software for that matter) from not official sites!

The current beta version of MSN is 7. The current stable release is 6.2.0205. As CookieRevised said, you shouldn't download MSN from unoffical sites. The offical site is: messenger.msn.com.

If you downloaded the file from www.mess.be you should have a file with MSNLoader.exe in it. Open it and click Load. You will see a new MSN Messenger icon next to the clock in the taskbar; you can use this to sign in with a different account. You can load more instances of MSN Messenger this way if you wish.
