MEWS Parsers by Yousef on 02-15-2005 at 05:34 PM

Hi,
I hope most of you read the thread about my latest plugin: Messenger Web Services.
Because you all were quite enthousiastic (even while not many parsers are available yet), I thought it'd be a good idea to open a thread about parsers only.

Please post here ideas for new parsers(what websites website you'd like to see a parser for)

And when you've given it a try to make a parser, tell me what you made. Or if you run into any problems, tell me the problem...

Parsers I already made (I will make a parser database this week):

English
azlyrics - Azlyrics.com
cnn news - Cnn.com
citytime - Timeanddate.com/worldclock/
dictionary -Dictionary.com
familyguy - Familyguquotes.com
msgweb - msgweb.nl/en
nforce - nforce.nl
quote - quotationspage.com

Dutch
Flabber.nl
Fok.nl
Geenstijl.nl
Tweakers.net
VanDale.nl

Things about problems with the downloadable version of the plugin should be placed in the thread mentioned above (or in a new one)

How did I know the first suggestion would be Mess.be? :P

Neowin.net
Even though I don't use that site, I know others do.

Hmm, maybe you can try to do msgplus.net news or something? I'm not sure :).

without sounding like astupid noob what does u mean by parser?

RE: MEWS Parsers by Eljay on 02-16-2005 at 02:32 PM

basically a parser interprets code from a specified source , retreives specified info, and modifies it to suit your requirements, in this case it opens a website and retrieves news/quotes and then outputs them as a message in msn.

The mess.be parser is done, thanks to that_ginger_guy.

Where can I find the neowin rss feeds? Also keep thinking of new ideas. I'd like to see more suggestions which doesn't only include news, more functional parsers like the quote/dictionary parsers etc. Remember that the page does NOT need to be xml (rss)!
