Making this look good. by user27089 on 02-17-2005 at 08:11 PM

Well, I have a pretty big monitor, it has always been on 1024x768, I want to change my resolution to 1280x1024, but whenever I do this, everything looks really small, what can I do to prevent everything looking like this?

RE: Making this look good. by Plik on 02-17-2005 at 08:13 PM

You cant, the higher the resolotion is the smaller everthing seams because there are more pixels on the screen.
So a 16x16 icon will look smaller because there are more pixels around it.

RE: Making this look good. by user27089 on 02-17-2005 at 08:16 PM

so if i make the icons larger or whatever, and somehow the taskbar bigger, then it should be okay?

I guess if text is bothering you, you could change the font size to Medium or Extra large (lol)

Or use an easier type of font to read like Arial..?

You get used to it. I have been running @ 1280x1024 for a long time with a 15". Now I run 1024x768, and when I switched to 1280x1024 for a short period, everything looked really tiny. I suggest just trying it for a few days. You'll either like it very much because you have much more space, or will hate it because you have bad eyes.

Right click your desktop, hit "Properties" then "Settings" "Advanced" Then in the "Display" box change that to a larger DPI (e.g. 120 DPI)

I changed from 800 X 600 to 1024 X 768 but you do after a while get used to things being smaller. I wonder what 1280x1024 look like may I have a screeny traxor?

To me that doesn't look any smaller from 1024 X 768. :^) I might change to it now. :)

RE: Making this look good. by user27089 on 02-17-2005 at 09:05 PM

it looks okay ish, but still, it does look really quite small when I'm typing and stuff, I'll get used to it I suppose, all in the nature of having a nice user interface >.<.

blade is that a widescreen resolution, i have a widescreen resolution too. I have 1280 x 800 but want to know how to make it bigger

on the enlarge slider, it just goes

640 x 480, 800 x 600, 1280 x 800

and then it stops, how do i get higher resolutions.

1) I don't have a widescreen - just a standard 17" monitor
2) If the res doesn't go any higher it means your video card doesn't support any higher of a resolution.

By getting a monitor capable of higher resolutions :P
If you have the correct driver installed for your monitor, Windows won't let you set it to incompatible settings. I'd love to run higher than 1024×768, but my 15" LCD isn't capable of it. So I can't.

It's more often the video card than the monitor. Most CRTs have quite a high max, where as most LCDs have a 1280x1024 max most of the time.

..and I just found out my new 15" monitor doesn't support above 1024×768. I so wanted to be on 1280x1024. :'(:'(:'(

Partially true: my video card can go way above 1024×768, but my monitor can't, which is why I have the limit imposed by Windows.

Your monitor must be pretty old.

Btw, what video card do you have?

Why do you have a link to Norton on your desktop? It's almost impossible to completely shut down Norton while your PC's running so that icon would have no use whatsoever :p

depends on the size of the screen, the smaller the screen the less the resolution.

Not really - Most LCDs have 1280x1024 as the max, just look, a good chunk of 15", almost all 17" and a chunk of 19".

About Norton: I didn't even notice it :P I deleted the icon.
RE: Making this look good. by paperless on 02-17-2005 at 10:40 PM

you feel a difference when u change to 1280x1024 but within 1 /2 days u wont really notice the difference anymore.. ehgeh ironicaly ive always being using 1280x1024 but i changed to 1024x768 some days ago at beginning i thought everything was huge now i dont notice the difference except when making huge files in photoshop

RE: Making this look good. by ddunk on 02-17-2005 at 11:13 PM

tbh, 1920x1440 > *

This is a 17'' monitor too. Eventually, you'll get used to it. The only reason I've got it so high, is that I'm so used to it and annoyed by the size of anything smaller as I cant have as many windows open :P

The monitor isn't old, just cheap.
My video card is a Radeon 9600.
