Microsoft antispyware didnt upgrade!! by zaidgs on 02-19-2005 at 01:56 AM

today i downloaded the "updated" windows antispyware directly from microsoft's security website. I uninstalled the old version, then installed the new one!! surprise, the product wasnt the new version, it was still 1.0.501, but spyware definitions were only updated to: Spyware Definition Version: 5685 (2/18/2005 3:51:43 AM) (edit2: later today, the signitures upgraded to 5691, but it still reports i got latest version).....
did this happen with anyone else?!?! whats wrong with microsoft's download?!?! and if u had to ask, nope i dont use a proxy (well, none i know of :S)

edit: i tried to use update feature, it says i got latest of both signitures and software as opposed to what they say on their website:

quote:
If you are using a previous version you can simply upgrade to the refreshed version. The version number of the refreshed version is 1.0.509. To check the version number, click About Microsoft AntiSpyware… on the Help menu.
.......................
Note: This download has been updated to include signature version 5687, which is the most current as of February 10, 2005.

No, the real question is: is it still detecting MsgPlus! as a spyware or not?

according to latest spyware definitions; it still does, but severity moved from high to moderate.

has anyone actually upgraded, or did microsoft actually miss to reflect the changes??

You might find that the program is the same, it's just updated the definitions.
