Is that a joke :|
I had 128 kbps 3 months ago and will take a 1 mbps line mabbe in june. It is actually cheaper than the 128 kbps but with 128 kbps u have unlimited bandwidth and in 1 mbps u have to pay the fee for the whole year at once :| and u have 2 gb bandwidth. I guess thats enough. But if it aint i'll be stuck for one year so still thinki bout it. (Btw i said it was cheaper. The price difference is about 1.5 USD a month)
What do u think ?

Newayz back on topic ...
Found this on google.
Bandwidth speed test
But connections over 8mbps are not supported :(
U can do it for free 3 times a month apparently. I'll check it out myself to c how it is. I'll edit my post with the results :)
RE: Testing the speed? by _Humphreys on 02-19-2005 at 04:52 PM

Mine was 268 kbps (down) 56 kbps (up). I have 300k broadband and 2 mbps is fast man not slow. :^)

The main reason our system is a lot slower is because our system is a lot older in most places and therefore our exchanges have to deal with problems like older copper wires, this doesn't affect big cities but it does effect remote locations.
And 2mbps isn't bad, I have a 576kbps connection that is soon going to be upgraded by BT to 1mbps for free, and I am happy with that, there are people starving in the world, why complain about a 2mbps connection?

Thats what i'm fearing would happen to me :dodgy: So i think i'd rather stick with the 128 mb one. We also have a 256 mb plan here but thats too costly. We cant change our isp cause we are living in the company alloted houses and since my dad is in a company owned by the govt. they only allow companies to give services :dodgy:
So i'll have to wait till my dad retires and we move to our own home till i get a 1mbps + connection here. I'll finish my studies and go abroad to work and get settled before that. So i'll get a faster connection there :cheesy:

Ya the 3 servers on the front page are busy so i have to goto the other 270 listed sites. I'm going to use the japan cause it gotta be 3.15 am there approx by my count so it has to be free. If it aint then either too many ppl r using this service or ppl at japan live their lives on the pc which i know they dont.

Whats pathetic about that?
I have 1024/256 with unlimited bandwidth, for "only" 300 DKK ($52.55) a month
RE: Testing the speed? by John Anderton on 02-19-2005 at 05:27 PM

K the one that mike2 gave works. I have tried it before. For ur benifit go here directly. This server is free http://performance.toast.net/
I used the " TOAST.net I ". It loads a long txt file and tells u ur speed and its absolutely accurate i guess. It was off by 1 kbps even thou i was browsing this forum and loading some pages at the same time. So i decided to retake it. But since the txt file was preloaded (already there) in my cache it loaded in .32 secs. So its shows my speed as 8520 kbps :cheesy: :woot:

What is ur connection speed. Dont lie :dodgy:
Mine too but only when i run the same test again :D
If im loading other pages during the test then my speed is affected rite ?
RE: Testing the speed? by mad_onion on 02-19-2005 at 06:49 PM

im just saying that 2Mbps isnt that good in comparison to people in Europe who get 10Mbps for a cheap price and people in South Korea who have 40Mbps. it isnt fair and yeah i know that it is because of the old lines but that isnt an excuse, it is like the people who say the tube service in London is bad because it is old. they should make it good!!!
i have BT broadband and i just got upgraded to 2Mbps thats why it sounds a lot cause all the other providers havent adjusted yet. i pay £25 and have a 15Gb limit per month although i dont use that and it isnt enforced.

RE: Testing the speed? by saralk on 02-19-2005 at 06:57 PM

it is true, however, the fact that we have a poor infrastructure is an excuse, they could dig up the phone system, but it would cos lots of money and that cost would have to be extended to us, the consumer.

RE: Testing the speed? by SikStyles on 02-19-2005 at 07:02 PM

its all different for ppl...depends what server do u use

RE: Testing the speed? by John Anderton on 02-19-2005 at 07:26 PM

In india 1 mbps is the highest i have seen :$ But no individual has got it. Companies use it for multiple comps together.
I may get one  but most prolly wont :( cause of the dl limit :(

RE: Testing the speed? by The Napster on 02-19-2005 at 07:38 PM

When i was on switzerland we got 128Kbps, then (about 1/2 a year alter) they (our ISP) upgraded to 300Kbps, and before we moved to Germany (about another 1/2 Year later) they were at about 800Kbps. Here in germany we have 1Mbps, wich is one of the slower speeds, but its ok for me...

Although 40Mbps would be nice :p, flatrate of couse.

Found these

Broadband Reports -

http://www.broadbandreports.com/stest?loc=97

Squigly -

http://www.squigly.com/performance/

These are the two online sites Rogers themselves will end up sending you to, plus

CNET -

http://reviews.cnet.com/Bandwidth_meter/7004-7254_7-0.html?tag=ft

Computers4Sure -

http://www.computers4sure.com/speed.asp?

And PCPistop -

http://www.pcpitstop.com/internet/Bandwidth.asp

or their excellent overall test(which will want to install a little something on your computer but it is safe) -

http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/default.asp

Run all these in quick succession and get an average of what your bandwidth is doing at that time.
