RE: Msn today by EvilSeph on 02-26-2005 at 05:05 AM

Each MSN Today respectively loads the local content from the local portal (eg. for Canada, that's msn.ca). The other places don't seem to have been updated yet. The update only seems to apply to US users at present, Canada isn't including in "Phase one" as Goshi put it.

Please remember that there are a million/billion+ hotmail users and as such, you can't expect every zone to be updated at the same time. Unless that's what they plan to do - which is often not the case.

ya well i guess ill stop trusting mess.be so much :P because they said canada and us.

It works in all of the UK. You can use any UK postcode and it'll work. Such as

SW1Y 4SQ.

for example, which is some hotel in london

RE: Msn today by Goshi on 02-26-2005 at 06:34 PM

I had tested london and glasgow and didn't work.....maybe it needs to have this passport's informations since a few days or months :(...I will create a new acount in msn.co.uk:)

Thanks a lot everybody, topic closed :p

RE: Msn today by EvilSeph on 02-26-2005 at 09:45 PM

It also seems that MSN Today isn't updated ONLY based on location. I have mutiple passports and only some of them have been updated to the new MSN Today.

RE: Msn today by Goshi on 02-26-2005 at 10:32 PM

And can you give me the url of the new msn today ? Look at your internet explorer's history please :)

RE: Msn today by EvilSeph on 02-26-2005 at 10:43 PM

It doesn't matter what the url is. It asks you to login to *your* passport, and then loads the appropriate MSN Today. Regardless of the url you use. As such, if your passport's MSN Today hasn't been updated, then the only way you'll see the new MSN Today is by waiting or using someone elses passport details (who have had their passport's MSN Today updated).

Edit: Disregard what I said above, I seem to have found a way around it.

The updated version of MSN Today is located on a different sub-domain name. Rather than msntoday.msn... it's now located at t.msn...

Here's the direct url: http://t.msn.com/en-us/default.aspx

Unfortunately, my one comes up as Glasgow instead of my home city. Anyone know why?

RE: Msn today by Goshi on 02-26-2005 at 11:18 PM

The things MSN Today report are based on your porfile settings. If your profile says you are from Glasgow, then you are from Glasgow...however, that just seems pointless to say, as I guess you'd have setup your profile correctly... but check it out anyway and reply. I'm interested in how it gets it's information but I'd assume from the profile.

What do you mean by that? You can easily change the language of MSN Today by changing the language in your profile. Or in this case, if you are going through the url, change "en" to "fr".

One thing I did notice however, is that if the "/language-location/" (eg. "/en-ca/") is different from that in my profile, certain elements fail to show up. Like the weather element.

I know, but I wanted to add this new msn today in my tabs' configuration for msncreative (you have your name in my news :p). French people who wants the new msn today can do it now with my patch :)
RE: Msn today by EvilSeph on 02-26-2005 at 11:47 PM

Ah, ic. So instead of users waiting for their account to be updated, you allow them to force the update with a patch :)?

RE: Msn today by Goshi on 02-26-2005 at 11:50 PM

Exactly :)

My profile has my own post code for my own city so I guess they don't have a weather report for the capital for some reason.:S
RE: Msn today by Goshi on 02-27-2005 at 02:20 PM

That's strange, and if you test it with glasgow or an other city? :p

RE: Msn today by EvilSeph on 02-27-2005 at 05:23 PM

Here's an update, MSN Today will be updated in phases over the next few months in other markets.  Yesterday, MSN Today was launched in two markets - supposedly the United States and Canada, however that doesn't seem true for all accounts..

RE: Msn today by vincerooney on 02-27-2005 at 07:09 PM

In the Uk we had the new msn today yesterday. But now i have the old one again. anyone else got this too?

RE: Msn today by Missyhmakr on 04-27-2005 at 04:09 PM

I have updated my profile to show my city and it still shows New York's weather.  I have MSN Messenger 7.0 on a different computer with no MsgPlus! and it shows the correct city.  Any suggestions?  I checked all settings and they are all the same.
