Playing Online Multiplayer Games by John Anderton on 02-26-2005 at 10:42 AM

I have a few games which can be played online. They are old i know but earlier i had a dial up and if I played Multiplayer online games thru my phone line then i'd be dead.[Image: guillotine.gif]
But about 5 months back i got cablenet so i wanted to try playing online multiplayer games but i was unsuccessful. I have Fifa 2002, Fifa WC 2002, Fifa 2003, Fifa 2004, Unreal Tournament (Original one :dodgy: Told ya they were old :P), Age Of Empires 2 Conquorers Expansion (I have the old one but i havent installed it atm) etc.
Are there some settings reqd or is there a time pd after which the online game play stops :S Any help ?
Ask if more info is reqd :D

well generally most problems are caused by low specs or firewalls/routers

what are the problems you get?
do you get error messages?
which game(s) doesnt work?

I tht atleast aoe 2: ce should work but it doesnt. It never shows any server. If someone can tell me how to do the connection in detail then that'll be gr8 :cheesy: I dont know where to register and what to do. Never done that myself :$

Does your cable modem function as a router as well? because if this is the case the NAT within it will act as a natural firewall preventing server information being sent to you. As for how to fix this you will have to look in the manual of the modem for what is known as port forwarding. I know that on my modem I had to forward several ports to get Warcraft III working

Go to www.zone.msn.com (in IE, not firefox). That's where you play AOE2: Conquorers Expansion online, no servers will show up when you search, because if you read how it works in the help section you will see about this...
as for the other games, make sure that your firewall is configured properly (look on the websites of the products and search on google for related issues). Please read the help topics on the products to see how you do it.
