Windows firewall question by Vazza on 02-27-2005 at 02:20 AM

hey all

just a quick question about windows firewall. I've seen something in it (dplayersvr) and I'm wondering if I can delete this but ifI find out that I need it for whatever its related to, if a windows restore would help. I'm only using XP SP1 at the moment (until april)

cheers in advance

dplayersvr is part of DirectX's DirectPlay, it's required for TCP/IP multiplayer gaming.

I can't think of anything that I might have installed though that would require that though. So why has it appeared now? And why can't I delete it? Surely if I had installed a program that needed it, Iit would be reinstalled when I reinstalled whatever program it came from.

Dudette, it's part of DirectX, you cannot remove it from your computer, you can remove the entry from the windows firewall but it will reappear as soon as you play a multiplayer capable game that uses DirectPlay.
