Forum downtime... by WDZ on 01-26-2003 at 04:03 AM

The forums have been down nearly all day due to the internet worm/virus attack that started early today... click the link below for more details...

[Edit by Network Administrator: Kasper]
The attack was not directed at this server.
However it was down because it sits on a network of servers that were directly affected by the attack and as a result, indirectly affected this server.
At no time was the data or integrity of this server at risk or compromised.

What database u use for the forum ??

RE: Forum downtime... by WDZ on 01-26-2003 at 04:12 AM

We use MySQL, not Microsoft's SQL Server (the target of the attack)...

The virus affected the whole internet, not just SQL servers. When the worm was spreading, it used tons of bandwidth and took down servers and networks...

DDoS Attack....
But I wonder why don't Micro$oft themselves install Service Pack for their Servers?

Microsoft has already released a patch for this flaw a long time ago, but many system administrators obviously haven't updated their software as they should have.
Let's hope this doesn't ever happen again.

Well, the problem is that many are having difficulties updating because of the virus. After all, you have to download that as well, and the virus is causing many people a good deal of trouble with their bandwidth. It might take a while updating all the systems when you're having problems getting a signal through on the internet at all. Not to mention if your connection times out every few minutes.

Stupid worms, and those administrators should be more aware of the vulnerabilities of their systems...
No problems here (with internet) just the down-time of your server :undecided:

Well seems MySQL is better(higher security and free)
Well anyhow, indeed it's great for us to be able to back to the forum.

My personal server was up and running through the weekend but that may be because my server's only less than ten meters away from where I sit right now.  Except that my dns hoster went down with the worm.

The worm was not targeted at corrupting information, but just generating traffic to force servers offline.
