RE: Firefox 1.0.1 Released by Ahmad on 03-01-2005 at 06:39 AM

Yes, it was released about 1 week ago ;) I thought everyone on here already knew..

They actually managed to get the setup installation size smaller than 1.0.

Really :| How come i got the pop up now. I guess my copy only checked it now :P So there mabbe some ppl who still dont know i guess.

Firefox 1.0 is 4.68 mb and Firefox 1.0.1 is 4.59 Mb :|. Odd isnt it ;)
And firefox is one of the few softwares that on downloading have a perfectly renamed file like "Firefox Setup 1.0.1" unlike other softwares which are quite odd. Doesnt make much of a difference but saves my time renaming. I only have to remove "setup" ;)
RE: Firefox 1.0.1 Released by Ahmad on 03-01-2005 at 07:04 AM

lol yea I noticed the very convenient file name, I don't of any other program that does that.

The only differences I've noticed in this new version, is slow-down when my mouse hovers over some css style links :|

Its very very slightly slow but there arent many changes. It is a security update :P (I think i saw that some where)
Newayz its only a change of 0.0.1 newayz (1.0.0 to 1.0.1) So minor changes :P
RE: Firefox 1.0.1 Released by Hank on 03-01-2005 at 07:09 AM

wait for 1.1 ..but in windows its slow as compared to Linux, fast as :P

RE: Firefox 1.0.1 Released by Chestah on 03-01-2005 at 07:13 AM

major security update was released, hence why they even bothered releasing a 0.1 update :P, and no its not really strange that the install is smaller, programmers are always trying to make their programs take up less space and less space in your ram as well as adding new features :P

I alwayz like it when that happens but usually when the version changes the size increases. Like System Mechanic 3 Pro was 3 - 5 mb and Version 5 Pro Is like 32 Mb :|
For even a small update of ZAP i need to download the whole 6 or so mb package :dodgy: I have cable net so its ok but still :undecided:
There are many more such cases.
If its small and takes less ram then it feels good but to have more features and for more things the size does eventually have to increase i guess.

true John :P,
but i hope as techology increases in development/skill
then compression techniques evolve as well ;)

True, I haven't seen much improvement in that area lately.. but I once unzipped/unpacked/injected a ~129mb file into ~1.37 :| - it took ages, but it was awesome, very 56k user friendly

Certainly hope so. So that it would save our time in downloading software :P
RE: Firefox 1.0.1 Released by Chestah on 03-01-2005 at 07:44 AM

lol but then again John as time goes on you'd expect storage and internet speeds to increase ;)

Ah, but some people (i.e. me) still can't get Broadband (:@ at BT).
Anyway, since I've got the day off school, might as well kill time by downloading the new version. I hadn't been told about the 1.0.1 release.

RE: Firefox 1.0.1 Released by Concord Dawn on 03-01-2005 at 02:35 PM

w00tles to new FF version.

I don't use nightly versions because I'm lazy. I like my FF 1.0.1 anyways. It's got a pwnage skin to match my windows :)

RE: Firefox 1.0.1 Released by Hank on 03-01-2005 at 03:07 PM

iv'e heard in the firefox newsgroup on the Mozilla Secnews server that FF1.0.1 does or is having problems

go into the MozillaZine Forums an ask your questions there,

RE: Firefox 1.0.1 Released by L. Coyote on 03-01-2005 at 05:23 PM

I just saw this new version two days ago, when I went to get a couple of extensions. It never popped up for me, even when I did a manual check. :s

Oh well... (Y) It's good, but no big apparent difference.

RE: Firefox 1.0.1 Released by ayjay on 03-01-2005 at 05:31 PM

Only just got the popup thingy. I can't be bothered to download it lol. I'll wait for a major change to update, it's hardly like Firefox has any noticable security probs :P
