During the booting sequence, keep tapping F8 till you get a boot menu. Then you can choose DOS mode there.

From the title, it sounds like you are in DOS and want to boot Windows? At the c Prompt type "win"... it should load windows

Rebote the PC and tap the F8 key. It choose Command Prompt. If F8 doesn't get you to this menu tap F5 instead.

Or you can make a start-up disk and boot up from that.

Note that when you boot up in DOS by pressing F8 during the Windows boot up, that you'll never truely boot up in DOS but always in a DOS-session under Windows!!!

If you realy want to boot up in true DOS, you'll need to make your own startup menu and most importantly have a DOS bootrecord, not a Windows bootrecord.

Ummm isn't that Windows 2000/XP and up? Because if you goto Command Prompt it is loading to DOS I was under the impression of that.

He is running dos and he wants to start windows :dodgy:

If it doesnt start automaticily like it should, you could reinstall, or just type WIN every time you get to the dos prompt.

This is going to be my final post in this thread to clarify everything that has been said.

To boot into DOS when using:
--> Repeatly tap the F8 or F5 key
--> From the Startup Menu choose Command Prompt Only

To reboot PC from DOS:
--> Press CTRL+ALT+DEL twice
--> type "restart" without the quotes and it should restart (Doesn't always work)

nope, it's in all Windows, 95 and up... the bootmenu (after installing any Windows) always runs (a part of) Windows, even if you choose "DOS". It will never be true "DOS"-DOS, but "Windows"-DOS. This can give problems with some true DOS applications. It also has implications in memory management, etc...

The "Command Prompt" in Windows is indeed the best known type of "DOS console" though...
