Weird Virus (Bropia?) by Maniac on 03-20-2005 at 10:19 PM

Alright something came up with a couple of friends of mine, it's definatly a virus but i can't seem to find a solution to it.

Symptoms:
They all have the Bropia virus, at first i thought it was all but there's more.
They can only access certain webpages, most of them dont work
Windows close automatically when they are opened
Computers slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow
Ctrl-alt-del doesn't do anything

I tried downloading the norton fix for Bropia, found a way to get it downloaded but it doesn't run, just closes. One of them had Norton installed it ran no problemo and found 10000 viruses (yeah... seriously that's not a typo... but i think and hope this is an isolated case) the others don't have it and everytime they try to install it, it tries to scan the computer and every 1-5 files scanned they are asked if they really want to stop the scan... now try scanning a HD having to click "no" every 5 files :dodgy:

Any help will be nice... i did my best and couldn't figure it out.

Oh, tried stuff in safe mode still the same.

Try an reboot the PC into Safe Mode with Networking.

Reboot the PC and keep tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Choose Safe Mode with Networking. Try and do an online scan for viruses.

Rename the hosts file (Located at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts)

Disable all startup items (Start > Run > msconfig (then press enter) > click the startup tab > Click Disable All at the bottom but put a check in msnmsgr and MsgPlus.exe and any anti viruses they have click Apply and Ok and restart.

Do as above (start in safe mode) but it sounds to me as if you have the Serflog virus. Use this removal tool on the following site:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/ven....removal.tool.html
Or this direct download link:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FixSflog.exe

Hope it works:)
