Computer Temp change.... by Purity on 03-21-2005 at 05:06 AM

When I first got my computer at Christmas it averaged about 30 Degrees Celceus....untill about ~2 weeks ago...Now it averages 40-45 degrees...

I'm pretty sure all my fans are running properly...:-/

Does anyone know a reason for this happening?

(heatsink?) I dunno what that is but it has to do with something...:-/

RE: Computer Temp change.... by .Roy on 03-21-2005 at 09:40 AM

maybe cuz in christmas its cold and now its hot :P Or maybe to much electricity :D

RE: Computer Temp change.... by Purity on 03-21-2005 at 01:38 PM

Nah, it's still the same temp as it was x-mas....:dodgy:

RE: Computer Temp change.... by TaKYoN on 03-21-2005 at 01:49 PM

Accumulated dust on the heatsink can push temps up.  Mine drops from 45C under full load to around 38C under full load with fans at 40%.

I figured it might have to do with dust....I'm gonna clean my computer later.....Thanks TaKYon

NP mate, just offering a bit of knowledge I picked up.

TBH I would never have thought that, in my old PC it was caked in dust and made no difference, but this new one, hell the tiniest bit of dust and you could fry an egg on it LOL

If you get a lot of dust maybe consider adding another fan or 2 to sort out the airflow.

RE: Computer Temp change.... by Purity on 03-21-2005 at 02:14 PM

lol...

Thanks again

If its a new pc maybe somthings faulty and is suddenly reading out higher temps.. But try cleaning first.

RE: Computer Temp change.... by lizard.boy on 03-29-2005 at 10:29 PM

usually cleaning is improtant, but DO NOT ever use a staic duster, the best way to clean a computer is with compressed air. when i can i use my dads compressor for his nail gun and if not i keep canned air around for cleaning out pcs that i fix.

i'l post a pic of my fan grill if i get enough dust on it.

lizard.boy is right, compressed air is the way to go :-)

I use a special adapters for my vacume to vacume the dust in my comp.

RE: Computer Temp change.... by Purity on 03-30-2005 at 07:18 AM

Erm, You guys are saying blow compressed air into my computer... :-/ like I'm worried that im gonna destroy something, like this is compressed air... :-/

RE: Computer Temp change.... by WDZ on 03-30-2005 at 07:23 AM

Well, if you're using a pump or air compressor, blow from a distance (outside of the case) to keep the pressure down, and use your hand to check it.

RE: Computer Temp change.... by Purity on 03-30-2005 at 07:37 AM

lol, yeah, that's understandable...

RE: Computer Temp change.... by Pyroteq on 03-30-2005 at 08:48 AM

Vacum it :p (And get rid of half your transisters too)

RE: Computer Temp change.... by .Roy on 03-30-2005 at 09:11 AM

compressed air is good. But dont do it while your computer is on :D.

[off topic]Just so u know if u turn the can upside down and aim at ur hand really close it freezes. It so fun [/offtopic]
I used it once to clean a keyboard

RE: Computer Temp change.... by lizard.boy on 03-31-2005 at 02:52 AM

i always have a can on my desk, usually open. i also usually have frost on my wall :P

you dont really have to worry too much about compressed air, if you see your ribbon cables pulling funny you may want to avoid them.

while you clean your pc make sure you get the dust out of the heatsinks and out of the powersupply.  in most peoples computers the psu is the only exaust fan and it can get discustingly dirty. (i have a compaq desktop in my closit that has massive dust bunnies in the psu that wont come out, i couldnt even get it open to clean it.)

RE: Computer Temp change.... by CookieRevised on 03-31-2005 at 03:04 AM

Not only dust can increase the temp. Also your HD may have to work more because it has accumulated more and more files and is more and more defragmented. This can cause, just as with dust, indirect temp changes; as the HD gets hotter, the whole inside of the case gets hotter, thus also the CPU...

Hey, sorry to bring up this thread again...

:P

My temp was averaging 60 degrees...

I finaly got around to buying a pressured air can or w.e and got rid of tons of dust, and I just wanted to say thanks very much!

My dad said I was close to a melt down....

RE: Computer Temp change.... by TaKYoN on 04-20-2005 at 08:33 AM

LOL glad it helped.  Funny how these small things can make such a difference.

On a sidenote, whoever said the HDD can make the system hotter, not here mate, tis the collest part of mine LOL Altho I am big on maintenance as I can have a Windows machine run for years without needing a format/reinstall.

RE: Computer Temp change.... by MoRiA on 04-20-2005 at 09:05 AM

60 degrees C won't kill your processor. Current AMD chips (don't know about Intel but they're probably similar) will be quite happy at 80C. They won't like you much if they get above 80, but 80 is fine. Mine runs at 55-65 constantly and there's nothing I can do about it. I have 10 fans in my computer and have gone through three heatsinks (including the stock one) costing about £30 each but the auto-shutdown feature of my mobo only kicks in occasionally in the middle of summer (indicating 95C temps :p).

Worrying about it being 40 instead of 30 is crazy. Actually to be honest 30 doesn't even sound like a temperature that a CPU can realistically achieve :S

RE: Computer Temp change.... by lizard.boy on 04-20-2005 at 06:30 PM

well there was this one guy who hooked up some sort of liquid gas line up to his waterblock for his cpu and manged to get his running cpu down to like 0*C  oh. thats with a 4 foot flame burning off the gas as it came out the back.

RE: Computer Temp change.... by Chris4 on 04-20-2005 at 07:11 PM

I think my PC temperature is pretty high aswell. How do you check the temperature of it.

Thanks.

RE: Computer Temp change.... by Purity on 04-21-2005 at 03:55 AM

Well mine came with an LCD screen telling CPU up time and Temp.....

I also reccomend if your comp temp is over 70 that you clean the dust off as soon as possible.

RE: Computer Temp change.... by squall_leonhart69r on 04-21-2005 at 04:48 AM

you all forgot to mention something :P

its called Heat compound Settling

when the special compound that helps transfer heat across the heatsink from the cpu dye, settles after awhile temps go up

:P i would also suggest if you are going to use the stock cooler that came with your cpu that you remove the crappy compound they put on it and use either silicon based or artic silver heat compounds

the gooey stuff they put on the heatsinks is really hard to remove completely
