UPDATE: SoundPack DB - Now with Uploading by Dempsey on 03-21-2005 at 11:55 PM

I'm making a SoundPack Database and im just wondering if anyone has got any suggestions/ideas/requests for it.

So far ive got:

  • Upload SoundPack
  • Sound Listing
  • Search SoundPacks
  • Rating/Commenting System
  • Download Counts

EDIT: I have now started work on the site and you can see what I've got so far here

Also does anyone ahve any SoundPacks?  i need to add some more to test some stuff out
RE: SoundPack DB Suggestions by Jhrono on 03-22-2005 at 12:10 AM

Add user registration so you can make stats like the most uploader and stuff...oh and make contests since you offer hosting:)...stuff like "The Uploader of the year gets a 6 months Free Domain and Hosting Pack" :)...

RE: SoundPack DB Suggestions by Dempsey on 03-22-2005 at 09:23 AM

yea i may do, although that make people upload loads and loads of crappy soundpacks just to try and win.

RE: SoundPack DB Suggestions by banky on 03-22-2005 at 09:31 AM

you should make something like most rated user like if another user likes someones soundpack they can rate the user.

RE: SoundPack DB Suggestions by Dempsey on 03-22-2005 at 09:33 AM

yea theres gonna be soundpack rating, but i might add user rating too.

RE: SoundPack DB Suggestions by banky on 03-22-2005 at 09:43 AM

That would be awesome...you should also add somthing like private sound packs and public so members can allow only certain people access to their soundpacks

RE: SoundPack DB Suggestions by Dempsey on 03-22-2005 at 09:44 AM

yea thats a good (i), allowing members to share their private soundpacks with other members

RE: SoundPack DB Suggestions by banky on 03-22-2005 at 09:49 AM

Any idea on when this is gonna be started and or completed and if you will need beta testers :D

RE: SoundPack DB Suggestions by Dempsey on 03-22-2005 at 09:57 AM

well its already been started and ive started coding some of the backend stuff, and im gonna try and get it open asap, but im quite busy @ college atm.

And yea we'll prob need some testers and people to uploading sounds :D

Also, ive gotta think wether to automatically add soundpacks to the databse or if they be will manually added, cos then they can be tested and stuff and we can get the details like number of dounds and list of sounds.

RE: SoundPack DB Suggestions by banky on 03-22-2005 at 09:58 AM

ok rember if you need a test ill be here :P

RE: SoundPack DB Suggestions by Dempsey on 03-22-2005 at 10:12 AM

yea when ive got the site up to a testing stage, ill let you know :P

RE: SoundPack DB Suggestions by Jhrono on 03-22-2005 at 11:01 AM

:D i want to test i want to test:D j/k
btw add user control panels, Profiles and whatsoever:)...fancy stuff:)

RE: SoundPack DB Suggestions by Dempsey on 03-22-2005 at 11:10 AM

yea ill prob use MyBB and then use that user login system throughout the site

RE: SoundPack DB Suggestions by banky on 03-22-2005 at 11:13 AM

That would work great dempsey if you used myBB. Less for you to could :/ sorta

RE: SoundPack DB Suggestions by Dempsey on 03-22-2005 at 11:31 AM

http://www.mpsounds.net

What do you rekon to that?  Forget about how ot looks, cos ill change that, but the layout of it and stuff?

RE: SoundPack DB Suggestions by Jhrono on 03-22-2005 at 11:45 AM

Pretty nice way to dispose, now you have to go for the GUI :D

RE: SoundPack DB Suggestions by Sypher on 03-22-2005 at 11:47 AM

Ask Rolando for that ;)

RE: SoundPack DB Suggestions by Dempsey on 03-22-2005 at 11:55 AM

Personally I would like to know exactly what's in a soundpack, in which category each sound is, etc... before I even consider downloading it...

And indeed, a very decent rating system is almost mandatory as people (contest or not) will upload many crap stuff...

PS: after looking at your example page: note about the 'category'. Each sound in a soundpack can be in a different category.

Also, make your own categories for the soundpacks themselfs. (and 1 soundpack can of course be in multiple categories. eg: funny, tv/movie, celebrity)

and while you at it (:P) make a search function that also can search on category of soundpack, category of sound, soundpack creator, date added, (partial) name of sound(packs), etc...

Sorry if I'll ask to much though ;) but you can do it (Y)(Y)
RE: SoundPack DB Suggestions by Dempsey on 03-22-2005 at 01:19 PM

Yes manually checking and adding will be best i think.

Yea i was thinking of using the 5 categorys and then a 'Various' category.

Yea and i was gonna have a search function for all the fields.

RE: SoundPack DB Suggestions by jordi on 03-22-2005 at 02:20 PM

Categorise the sounds by language

RE: SoundPack DB Suggestions by Leif on 03-22-2005 at 03:30 PM

Splendid idea, Dempsey!
It would be very nice to be able to listen to the sounds in the pack before downloading it.

yea that would be good but im not sure if i could do that easily, id have two options, try and extract the sounds programatically or manually extracts all the sounds and make low-qulaity previews and upload them
RE: UPDATE: SoundPack DB Preview by crank on 03-23-2005 at 11:28 AM

RE: UPDATE: SoundPack DB Preview by Jhrono on 03-23-2005 at 01:04 PM

Well the wierd fish logo could be transparent and at the center :)...

If you want a sound pack you can add mine to a miscellaneous section (this sp contains all my sounds...)

Download it Here
Status : Online

RE: UPDATE: SoundPack DB Preview by Dempsey on 03-23-2005 at 02:10 PM

oh you still see just a weird fish logo?  try refreshing the page

RE: UPDATE: SoundPack DB Preview by WDZ on 03-23-2005 at 04:03 PM

At http://www.mpsounds.net/ that red font on the blue background is kinda hard on the eyes... I don't like it... :p

I suppose you're still working on the design though... :spam:

RE: UPDATE: SoundPack DB Preview by Shezi on 03-23-2005 at 06:11 PM

sounds should be selected and downloaded as a single or can be downloaded the whole pack.... just like the clipart at microsoft website...;)
and also the sounds can also be hear before downloading.......:)

RE: UPDATE: SoundPack DB Preview by Dempsey on 04-02-2005 at 11:23 PM

The upload script is now working, so you can submit your own soundpacks to get added to the site :D

SoundPacks: 12
Total Sounds: 311
Registered Users: 223
Forums: 123 Posts in 30 Threads

As you can see we are growing, but we need more people to come to the site and submit soundpacks to help us grow :)
