Microsoft Beta Tester by mwe99 on 03-23-2005 at 12:00 AM

Just curious to know how many of you are Beta testers?

RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by Dane on 03-23-2005 at 12:07 AM

I am.  It isnt hard to become a beta tester.  I am currently Beta Tester for Microsoft MSN Messenger 7.0, Microsoft Baseline Security 2.0, and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2.

RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by mwe99 on 03-23-2005 at 12:09 AM

I applied but never got a reply :(

RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by Caboose on 03-23-2005 at 12:16 AM

What are the responsibilities of a beta tester, aside from reporting bugs? Or is that all?

RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by mwe99 on 03-23-2005 at 12:19 AM

"Beta Tester Role

A beta tester is someone who installs, tests and reports bugs for a product. Your role in our testing process is crucial as it helps to ensure that we are releasing well-tested, high quality products that meet our customer’s needs. As a beta tester, we rely on you to provide feedback regularly. If you are unable to actively test and report bugs or do not wish to test a beta product that you have received, notify us by sending e-mail to the program alias found in the specific program section within the ‘Enrolled Beta Programs’ area of this web site"

Ah, I see, thanks. I dunno if I could report bugs... I think I'm too lazy :P

RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by mwe99 on 03-23-2005 at 12:22 AM

hehe nah i'd love it :), plus it's something nice to put on your CV (think americans call it a resume) especially if you wanna go into the ICT job area [which i do]

RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by L. Coyote on 03-23-2005 at 12:28 AM

Funny thing is I cancelled my .NET Passport, and I had forgotten I used that for the Beta Microsoft.

I contacted them and they changed it! :cheesy:

But I'm still not approved.

I can't remember when I signed up. But I have a lot of time on my hands, beta testing would help me not to get bored.

RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by Caboose on 03-23-2005 at 12:31 AM

Yeah, I've got a lot of time on my hands too... I might consider beta testing... :dodgy:

RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by Caboose on 03-23-2005 at 12:42 AM

Lol yeah, I wouldn't leak stuff.

Anyway, I filled out the survey thing. I hope I get chosen o.o

Agreed on the "don't leak" part. (Y)

It's not only illegal, it gets you into trouble if they find out.
RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by mwe99 on 03-23-2005 at 12:44 AM

Yep and then i imagine you get your Beta status removed :P i'd cry if that happened lol

RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by pwnage97 on 03-23-2005 at 12:50 AM

same here. too much time so little to do...

RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by Dane on 03-23-2005 at 01:05 AM

Beta testing really isnt that hard, Unless you're doing like, Windows or something, in which case they give you instructions to test certain things.

I've been a Beta Tester of Plus! since its Plus! 2 Alpha (ahh...how I remember getting so excited when it moved from "Alpha" to "Beta").  At that time, Plus! was an undesigned machine with no icon :P, how it has grown.

Anyway, Beta testing is VERY easy, it mostly just requires constant usage of the product.  And sometimes patience.

RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by Caboose on 03-23-2005 at 01:08 AM

Well, I use MSN Messenger a lot... and I do mean a lot...

I guess I could work on the patience thing :P

RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by L. Coyote on 03-23-2005 at 01:12 AM

I must be patient to wait for my approval.

:D

RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by mwe99 on 03-23-2005 at 01:15 AM

Yep me too, :) *waits* *checks out forums* nope nothing yet :P

RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by prashker on 03-23-2005 at 01:17 AM

I CAN'T BELIEVE I WAS NUB AND SAID THAT :dodgy:

RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by Caboose on 03-23-2005 at 01:18 AM

http://www.beta.microsoft.com

Messenger Plus! is unrelated to MSN Messenger, so you can't apply for it there. I dunno how to become a MsgPlus! beta tester... :dodgy:

Messenger Plus! or MsgPlus! not MSN Plus. MSN Plus is a Microsoft thing.

Messenger Plus! only Patchou picks trusted ppl.

beta.microsoft.com for Microsoft.
RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by Dane on 03-23-2005 at 01:32 AM

Use the edit button, you could combine your last two posts into one.  Anyway, Yes, Most of the Messenger Plus! testers are trusted individuals that Patchou picks himself.  I applied to test Messenger Plus! 2 and then was selected for the future betas and stuff, so yeah, dont post asking to be a tester or msg Patchou cause it wont happen :).

RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by mwe99 on 03-23-2005 at 01:34 AM

Yeah poor Patchou, the amount of e-mails and PM's he must say from 'guest' members who post once and say "i wanna test!!!!!"

You'll get to test when you test, so wait :)

RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by prashker on 03-23-2005 at 01:56 AM

Ill wait i was just wondering

Putting something like that on your CV/resume means mostly nothing. Especially when it comes to things where everyone can sign up for and candidates are choosen almost randomly no matter how much they can be trusted, actually test, report and know about computing (like the MS beta testing)....
RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by mwe99 on 03-23-2005 at 02:53 AM

I still think it would look good though :P but yeah i'm mad

RE: Microsoft Beta Tester by L. Coyote on 03-23-2005 at 02:57 AM

The whole "I'm a Microsoft Beta Tester" thing is to be cool, for some people. (H)

The only people you can impress with that is your family, if they don't know what's a computer.
