Don't know why latelly i've been wanting to solve every problem my pc has...so here's one of them :

When i go to start and then to Search i get this error message :

"It's not possible to find a necessary file to execute 'search assistant'. You may need to execute the configuration program...

Now i'm really needing the search assistant cause i need to find a file:S...can anybody help me please?

if you have windows XP to get the search working try running these commands:
regsvr32 wshom.ocx
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 urlmon.dll

and after you run these commands restart the computer :^) and see if it helped

Edit: i'm not sure this will help you though :| hopefully it will.

Im no expert, but have you played with the msconfig startup services?! could it be a reason? try rebooting with everything ;-)

None of the solutions above gave results but I got one on the link that Joa gave

here's how to do it if someone is having these problems too :

1) Start > Run > regedit

2) Go through this path : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\CabinetState

3) Click Edit > New > String Value

4) Rename the new string to : use search asst

5) Double Click the "use search asst" key and type "no" on the Value Field

6) Close the registry
