The undeletable file by Pyroteq on 03-29-2005 at 06:30 AM

I was downloading an updated version of Firefox (With firefox) I cancelled it at about half way, pressed clear on the download manager and restarted my pc.
Now when i try to delete it, it wont go away =\ Just gives the message that another person or program is using it (Firefox is shut)

An ideas

P.S This has happened before, i just forgot how i fixed it.

Restart in Safe Mode----Go to the file----Delete it----Restart in regular mode. Pretty simple eh?!

Btw, if you don't know to get to Safe Mode, Restart your computer and when it starts to start back up, press F8 repeatly until a list comes up and then select safe mode.

Checked if something is running in Task Manager? if so kill that process and delete it.. or do what they already told you :)

or not go into safe mode.

exit explorer.exe.

then in task manager (ctrl+alt+del)

File->New look for your file and click delete.

thats how i get rid of files thet wont delete.

oh and then start explorer.exe again :P

I've always wondered how I reopen explorer.exe....

Yeah i ended explorer before but then i forgot how to delete it- LOL
My computer dosnt like safe mode, ive tried before to change the start menu button to 5t4r7 but as soon as i boot in safe mode everything goes blank.. Ill try what Ash said now.

Edit:
Safe mode still dosnt work (Goes blank and restarts itself after it loads the drivers)
I ended everything including explorer and tried, then ended everything else i could possibly end (All the system processes) Till my computer shut itself down due to me ending important processes..

It would seem i do have an undeletable file..
Ive just been told of a program called "Deep Delete" But im capped right now and cant download it.

Edit Edit:
Deep delete dosnt work, it has trouble accessing the file too.

Edit Edit Edit:
Fixed it with a program called MoveOnBoot- IT deletes it from your hdd before anything starts, including windows.

Thanks for all your suggestions guys

I had the exact same problem recently and this helped me. With safe mode I could only delete 2 out of the 3 files.

Anyways, it's good that you could get it fixed another way :)

boot to safe mode with command promt and then use old-skool dos commands to navigate to your file and delete it.

ctrl+alt+del -> File -> New -> type 'explore.exe' in the run prompt :undecided: :P

For the record: you can find out what's the damn process that's locking a file using something like TaskInfo.

I've found that many times explorer.exe is the culprit :dodgy:
Sometimes deleting a video file can be a pain in the ass, seems like explorer makes the preview and blocks it (I don't know why, there's no need to lock it for the preview), and then I have to kill explorer.exe, delete the file from cmd and start explorer again... :dodgy:
