The MSNM team is doing some testing. If you were an official tester, you would have recieved an email about this. You'll just have to wait it out.

got the same thing.. but aint a beta tester.. can i have some infos on whats going on or it is only for officia microsoft testers?

RE: messenger 'advanced features' problem by ddunk on 03-29-2005 at 11:31 PM

To be honest, I shouldn't even have told you that much. So no, you won't be able to know whats going on unless that person feels like risking their beta tester status.

My English sux but I'll try to explain how to get rid of this annoying message and by the same occasion to re-activate all the features (possibility to send any kind of files, etc.)

[list]
[*]First of all, close MSN Messenger!

[*]You'll then need to download Resource Hacker. You can find it here

[*]After you unzipped Resource Hacker in a folder of your choice, launch the program (ResHacker.exe) and go to File / Open ....

[*]Browse your hard drive until you reach your MSN Messenger folder (usually located in C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger)

[*]Open the file named msnmsgr.exe and go to Version Info / 1 / 1033 in the left panel. You'll now need to change the version of MSN Messenger from 7.0.0732 to 7.1.0000.

Here's an example:

[*]When it's done, hit the Compile script button at the top of the screen and go to File / Save as .... Name the file msnmsgr.exe and save it in your MSN Messenger folder. (Usually C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger as I said before)

I suggest you to rename your original msnmsgr.exe file to something else like msnmsgr.exe.old for security reason! ;)

Hacking isn't my thing! I only give you a tip to get rid of the annoying "some advanced features have been disabled blah blah blah" message... and you're free to try it or not! If this tip is considered to be a "hack" by moderators, then I'm sure they'll know what they got todo but as I said, my only attention is to help, not to hack a software or to suggest illegal stuff! ;)

It will go off after testing... just be paitent lol

They're testing to make it better... if it "annoys" you

a) don't use MSN Messenger
b) use MSN web messenger

I believe the testing ends 31.3.05

RE: messenger 'advanced features' problem by myxomatosis on 03-31-2005 at 12:58 AM

This "fix" works locally.. it doesn't interfere with the testing
